I think it's a wonderful thing to discuss such topics. I think that discussing and understanding where somebody's feelings come from goes a long way to making the world a better place to live

Thanks, Heather! I wrote this a little while ago, and got only on response, then through an email. I started to think that maybe the subject "was" too touchy...
I'm glad you shared, though.
I find that when faced with a situation such as the one with the girls in the car, I also have to weigh out if I want to "enlighten" or not. Sometimes it may be that I'm the only one who will get upset, so why bother, especially if I'm feeling that "I'm" not the one who will make a mental breakthrough. And, as you said, I don't think there was any malice, so sometimes I just have to swallow it - just like I swallow a lot of feminist comments.
Great things to think about. Whether offended or the offendor, it's good to think about ways to find peace instead of war.

I think you're right about it beeing a little too touchy of a subject for most people. It's part of the reason we crawl along with race relations at times. Sigh.
I would love to be in a world where we acknowledge and embrace our differences and learn from each other and all have equal right to happiness.

Most of the time, we are dealing with "insensitivity" rather than overt, obvious racism. And there is reason to be thankful for that! And I have been there, I agree, that it is best to REMAIN CALM, because if the people talking were racists, they wouldn't have invited you or been with you in the first place.
