Scrapping the Memories

You just described by summers with my grandfather, only we did art - sketching and painting and photography. He's one of like four people left in the United States who stil does engraving completely by hand. He's amazing. But with five other cousins and my brother running around the house, this was always my time. In those years I probably learned more about my grandfather and his experiences than any of the others.

You certainly made me shed a tear.

And on a happier note, I hope to see you this Saturday :)

Isn't it amazing how much we learn about ourselves when we spend time like that with our parents and grandparents (and "greats" if we're lucky!)? All my life people would tell me I was just like my mother, but I didn't get it until I spent that time with her. Then when my brothers and sisters would say things to me like "you sound just like Mother!" and meaning it almost as an insult, I'd grin and say "Thank you!!!" Because I really got to know her. And I didn't just love her; I really "liked" her.

Engraving by hand? That's amazing and impressive! I'm really in awe here.

I CAN'T WAIT until Saturday!!!

What a lovely post about your Mother. What a wonderful positive woman she was and still is as her spirit still manages to carry you through.

Lynn is great! I'm so glad she found a babysitter so she and Mike can join in the festivities on Saturday, too!

See you soon!
Sweetie
