This may be silly but I find this quote from The Last Unicorn reassuring for these things: "Unicorns are in the world again! No sorrow will live in me with that joy... save one - and I thank you for that part, too."
Just the idea that some sorrows come from losing something wonderful and remind us to be grateful that we had that. It doesn't really make it easier but I find it comforting at least.
