A friend had a false derriere on hand, and she was going to go wearing only that, but then the false derriere became unavailable, so she had no choice but to be nekkid.

sounds awesome. did she tell you how she got to the party - did she like wear a trench coat and ceremoniously discard it at the door, or did she somehow get there unclothed?

She wore a long coat to the party and then discretely discarded it in a closet before going out and mingling among the couple hundred guests.

I refer to it as that tongue-in-cheekily.

couple hundred guests! sheesh, where was this? she certainly is a brave woman.

also, I love the NY Review of Books just as an absurd accessory, but is there a specific joke in there too that I'm missing?

The sort-of annual Euclid St. House Halloween thing (which last year was attended by 345 people, "a rough estimate arrived at by committee while
drunk", said the residents).

Specific joke...well, I guess it'd be that that's been her periodical of choice lately for whatever reason, so it was a necessary accessory as she was aiming to look as if she was just hanging out at her apartment minding her own business.

She just kinda hates going to those things, so when she does something outlandish it entertains her enough to make it feel like it's worth her time. Otherwise she honestly would just lie around her apartment naked reading The New York Review of Books.
