Geez. One experiment last year in my general chem lab used a Buchner funnel, but instead of a mechanical vacuum source, we sat it on top of a glass jug that had a tube attached to it, which ran to the side of a piece of pipe stuck on to the water faucet. When you turned on the faucet, water rushed through the pipe, creating a partial vacuum as it moved past the angled opening in the side where the tube entered, thus creating a partial vacuum in the glass jug, thus taking forever and a day to render our precipitate even remotely dry.
Fewer horrible wounds, of course. That sucks. I'm sorry that you've got to deal with that. I hate hand injuries.
