Okay, I want to give you my experience with some of these breeds. Of course, my experience is just as a neighbor or owner of the breed but it's better then nothing ( ... )

Standard poodle is what I was thinking. I've read a lot about them and my grandfather has always had poodles (of all different sizes) and I loved them all ( ... )

Who, me? Choose 1 breed over others? Eeep.. :}
That comment box wasn't long enough... lol

I love Pit Bulls, just make sure you find one that has been bred properly and treated well. They are smart, sweet, fun dogs, but they are.. well, smart and strong and stubborn and have been horribly misbred in recent years. Hence the bad rep... They can be wonderful, but you need to establish your position as Alpha dog and you should make sure they are fully healthy and, sadly, sane.

I agree with above, Huskies - a lot of work. Incredibly energetic and they were bred for long distance running and cold weather and they need exercise ( ... )

This may sound totally silly, but I've taken a whole bunch of those "what breed should you get?" tests and I always come up with a Pit Bull. I worry so much about the breeding, though. I've always gone to rescues, but I am hesistant because many of those dogs were mistreated, ignored, etc... and any mistreatment hits breeds like Pit Bulls *really* hard ( ... )

*After* I posted my comment, I realized your last post said you had a Husky, so I felt silly for telling you about them ( ... )

Wolf wasn't the typical husky, though. In fact, people had a feeling he was actually part wolf because of his look, habits and personality. Who knows, though. All of the wonderful husky dogs I've met were nothing like him, but they were sooo awesome. My friends' mother has six dogs and the two huskies are my favorites. =) It's so damn cute when they "sing" and "talk"! =D

What list? I'm totally missing something here. =P I *love* greyhounds and bulldogs, though. Especially greyhounds... <333 That's another breed I *have* thought about. I've heard the rescued/retired ones make really good couch potato dogs. =D

Pit bulls are supposed to be very good apt dogs, but I do worry about getting one in Southern CA where they are bred so many and so terribly. =\

We had a sammoyed, like a husky but pure white. Thats why I recommended it. Very smart dogs. Sweet.

She was a desert sammoyed, though. She might have been happier in the cold north.

My best friend wants one and a Pug. =D A cousin of mine had one and I loved her dearly. They are such beautiful, wonderful dogs. What are their personalities *typically* like, though? Can they be apartment dogs if you walk them everyday? Or do they need a yard?

german shepards are smart, strong and loyal and can be really sweet. Ours was a tripod.

That was my first choice until info online didn't encourage them to be kept in an apartment even with lots of walking. =\ My mother and I just looove them.

Heheeee... that and a samoyed are the dogs my best friend wants. =D I really, really like Pugs as I've met some wonderful ones but I really need a large dog that can give me the feeling of being protected.

I totally want a pug as well, but I understand your need for something protective. Pugs just look cute, breathe funny and laze around by the fire. :B
