Mum is overseas, staying with her best friend at the moment. She's been gone for almost four weeks, starting in the drifts of snow in Washington D.C., moving to the warmth of Virgin Gorda, back to 8 inches of snow in one night in D.C. - and now it seems to showing the very first hints of spring. Oh MAN. A few US things I really miss: kosher salt, maple syrup, Nutter Butter cookies, pumpkin pie filling, pepperjack cheese.

If you want to see a selection of USA-specific (and Mexico-specific) food items, here is where I go to sigh sadly over all the things I've missed.

Also, pretty much anything make-up related or over-the-counter medication-related is going to be insanely cheap compared to here. Suggested buys are 500-pill bottles of ibuprofen and some Benadryl for allergies and sleep-aids, should either of those things be something you need. You'll be set for ages.

Okay, maybe you can tell me - how is kosher salt different? Aside from being kosher, that is! It always seems to be the salt called for in American recipes. And is there no proper maple syrup brand in Australia?

Pop Tarts! I have asked for Pop Tarts. And on previous occasions, I have asked for Skittles because I missed the Lime flavour and liked the Grape as well. And now it's GREEN APPLE and Grape worldwide! WTF? *sulks exceedingly* Nobody seems to like lime anymore ...

I'm still pretty well stocked on makeup but I'll mention the ibuprofen and Benadryl to Mum - she might want to take advantage of those, thanks!
