It's as good as Gab's High School Never Ends, which won the Gatefic Awards last year. If you like special FX, action, pewpewpew, and a metal rock anthem (Shinedown's Diamond Eyes) then PRESS PLAY. On a completely unrelated topic - cool Stargate-related online videos - we walked into post after lunch and found Visual Effects Producer Mark Savela sitting, mesmerized, by the following fan-made video. We stopped to watch and, in seconds, we too were thoroughly entranced. It’s epic, expertly edited, and includes almost every awesome visual effects we’ve ever done. [x] yue_ix: Rec post: Merlin knights: Knights Tribute 'Moving' by veryval - an revisit and eloge to each knight who made it to the round table plus Merlin. This vid has beautiful music matched with a great sense of tempo; for instance there's a bit at 1:33 where Leon's strikes match the drum that's just perfect. There's fanon and canon pairings nicely orchestrated and a taste of adventure that stays with you even after the vid's over. Leon & Gwaine // A Love Story by SuWinchester900 - speaking of shippy montage, this one is brilliant. Under five minutes, and not only will you ship it like puppies and bows, but you won't believe anymore that this isn't canon.

[x] roga: happy things: 5. Vids: (a) Marching On (Harry Potter), linked to by everyone at Muskrat Jamboree who said they cried while watching it. It's a beautifully edited vid that combines footage from all 7 movies and I will take it over any of the movies themselves. (b) My Chemical Romance vid, full of lots of quotes and ~message and this is why fandom likes this band, other than the, you know, the pretty and the music and the slash. It made me aww. (c) Pete/Patrick vid! The pairing itself does not do too much for me, but I'm always incredibly impressed with vidders who manage to make good videos with RPF, especially vids that seem to tell a story, because collecting footage and editing it into something aesthetically pleasing is so, so difficult.

It's just wonderful. astolat's Blew 'em away is *hilarious* and awesome. giandujakiss's All These Things That I've Done makes me want to stand up and applaud, it's so well-done and builds beautifully.

(But bear in mind, some of these were made off tapes, on two VCRs, and haven't been remastered; the quality isn't going to be as crystal as modern vids.) Watch everything listed under killabeez's Highlander section on her masterlist page . There are four at the moment, and they're all great. If pressed, I would say that And As For You and Opportunities are my favorites of them, but it's kinda splitting hairs. *g* Also check out the vids listed under Highlander at Triptych Vids, which is an archive for several vidders' work. You need to make an account to see things, but it's free and fast. There's some Duncan/Methos in there, but again there's other stuff as well (including a Duncan'n'Fitz vid of pure yay, You've Got a Friend in Me). Also go to pteropus.com (password protected, but it's on an auto-responder and the password arrives instantly), and look through the list for Highlander vids. My fav of their HL vids is Clean.

It's Baby Doll-centric, but oh, how it expands that feeling of isolation, that sense of being trapped. Then halfway through, it breaks all of it down and shows these amazing women finding their strength and setting themselves free. ϟucker Punch by LightNeverFades (at YouTube) The beat is awesome! This is pure 'ladies kick ass, neener.' On a different note: this film was made for vids. I wish I had the skills, because hot damn, this movie is beautiful.

[x] bop_radar | Vid rec: Merry Go Round (BSG, Lee Adama): m_a_r_i_k_s has posted her Vidukon premiere, Merry Go Round--for those of you who didn't attend, you can now see this extraordinary piece. It's a vid that is deeply personal to me as a viewer, and one I recommend without hesitation for anyone interested in Lee. I will probably write at length about it at some stage, as it's a vid which I am still in the process of discovering myself. I was lucky to have the first viewing of it in private with m_a_r_i_k_s and brokenmnemonic, a second viewing during the premieres show, and now endless rewatching in the intimacy of my own home... this last feels very appropriate because it is a vid about a character's inner world, and specifically the inner world of an emotionally withdrawn character, one whom many people misread or fail to connect with. It's a vid to take one's time and patience with, if you have an open heart. I don't think I can put into words how privileged I feel that m_a_r_i_k_s shared it with us--it would take a vid to convey that. Maybe. :) Perhaps the most extraordinary thing about this piece is how full of love and beauty it is despite the violence and pain, directly or indirect, in it. It's what makes me cry and marvel and feel underneath a deep happiness.

[x] seperis | these are the times that try a fangirls' soul: So like the bulletproof kink, I have the vid-equivalent of bulletproof music; there are some songs that no matter how crappy the vid, I will watch them to the bitter end because the song or performers speak so well that for me, the vid has no choice but to be meaningful, which can end with me watching a lot of AMVs of obscure anime tearfully finding meaning in long shots of unnaturally beautiful, expressionless characters whose names I can't even pronounce, but I feel it okay? Then sometimes, just sometimes, a vid defines the perfect way the song should be vidded and no other vid can ever ever ever match it and I am so fucked, because that song is now off-limits and I want to ban anyone from ever using it again. And yet, i keep trying, which is why I have watched no less than twenty vids set to How to Save a Life and hate all of them, because they'll never be as awesome as that one FMA one, dammit. Even if, you know, some of them are amazing.

[x] yourlibrarian | Catching up: It's interesting to see what does and doesn't hold up over time though. Recently I was perusing some older vids to create a few recs for someone and I realized that I had a whole host of them that I remembered poorly if at all, and once I viewed them again I could see why. They weren't bad vids, and at the time I saw them I saved them because I thought they were well made or said something about the show/characters/relationships. However now either what they're saying has been said to death (and perhaps better elsewhere) or the way the vid was put together was not unique enough to really be memorable. And sometimes, funnily enough, I realized the thing I most liked about the vid was the song. In fact, if there's one way to recognize a standout vid, I'd say it's the one done to the song that is not your thing but still grabs you in a way that overcomes that.

This vid has beautiful music matched with a great sense of tempo; for instance there's a bit at 1:33 where Leon's strikes match the drum that's just perfect. There's fanon and canon pairings nicely orchestrated and a taste of adventure that stays with you even after the vid's over. Leon & Gwaine // A Love Story by SuWinchester900 - speaking of shippy montage, this one is brilliant. Under five minutes, and not only will you ship it like puppies and bows, but you won't believe anymore that this isn't canon.

[x] roga: happy things: 5. Vids: (a) Marching On (Harry Potter), linked to by everyone at Muskrat Jamboree who said they cried while watching it. It's a beautifully edited vid that combines footage from all 7 movies and I will take it over any of the movies themselves. (b) My Chemical Romance vid, full of lots of quotes and ~message and this is why fandom likes this band, other than the, you know, the pretty and the music and the slash. It made me aww. (c) Pete/Patrick vid! The pairing itself does not do too much for me, but I'm always incredibly impressed with vidders who manage to make good videos with RPF, especially vids that seem to tell a story, because collecting footage and editing it into something aesthetically pleasing is so, so difficult.

(But bear in mind, some of these were made off tapes, on two VCRs, and haven't been remastered; the quality isn't going to be as crystal as modern vids.) Watch everything listed under killabeez's Highlander section on her masterlist page . There are four at the moment, and they're all great. If pressed, I would say that And As For You and Opportunities are my favorites of them, but it's kinda splitting hairs. *g* Also check out the vids listed under Highlander at Triptych Vids, which is an archive for several vidders' work. You need to make an account to see things, but it's free and fast. There's some Duncan/Methos in there, but again there's other stuff as well (including a Duncan'n'Fitz vid of pure yay, You've Got a Friend in Me). Also go to pteropus.com (password protected, but it's on an auto-responder and the password arrives instantly), and look through the list for Highlander vids. My fav of their HL vids is Clean.

[x] bop_radar | Vid rec: Merry Go Round (BSG, Lee Adama): m_a_r_i_k_s has posted her Vidukon premiere, Merry Go Round--for those of you who didn't attend, you can now see this extraordinary piece. It's a vid that is deeply personal to me as a viewer, and one I recommend without hesitation for anyone interested in Lee. I will probably write at length about it at some stage, as it's a vid which I am still in the process of discovering myself. I was lucky to have the first viewing of it in private with m_a_r_i_k_s and brokenmnemonic, a second viewing during the premieres show, and now endless rewatching in the intimacy of my own home... this last feels very appropriate because it is a vid about a character's inner world, and specifically the inner world of an emotionally withdrawn character, one whom many people misread or fail to connect with. It's a vid to take one's time and patience with, if you have an open heart. I don't think I can put into words how privileged I feel that m_a_r_i_k_s shared it with us--it would take a vid to convey that. Maybe. :) Perhaps the most extraordinary thing about this piece is how full of love and beauty it is despite the violence and pain, directly or indirect, in it. It's what makes me cry and marvel and feel underneath a deep happiness.

[x] seperis | these are the times that try a fangirls' soul: So like the bulletproof kink, I have the vid-equivalent of bulletproof music; there are some songs that no matter how crappy the vid, I will watch them to the bitter end because the song or performers speak so well that for me, the vid has no choice but to be meaningful, which can end with me watching a lot of AMVs of obscure anime tearfully finding meaning in long shots of unnaturally beautiful, expressionless characters whose names I can't even pronounce, but I feel it okay? Then sometimes, just sometimes, a vid defines the perfect way the song should be vidded and no other vid can ever ever ever match it and I am so fucked, because that song is now off-limits and I want to ban anyone from ever using it again. And yet, i keep trying, which is why I have watched no less than twenty vids set to How to Save a Life and hate all of them, because they'll never be as awesome as that one FMA one, dammit. Even if, you know, some of them are amazing.

[x] yourlibrarian | Catching up: It's interesting to see what does and doesn't hold up over time though. Recently I was perusing some older vids to create a few recs for someone and I realized that I had a whole host of them that I remembered poorly if at all, and once I viewed them again I could see why. They weren't bad vids, and at the time I saw them I saved them because I thought they were well made or said something about the show/characters/relationships. However now either what they're saying has been said to death (and perhaps better elsewhere) or the way the vid was put together was not unique enough to really be memorable. And sometimes, funnily enough, I realized the thing I most liked about the vid was the song. In fact, if there's one way to recognize a standout vid, I'd say it's the one done to the song that is not your thing but still grabs you in a way that overcomes that.
