[x] chaila | Tory vid recs (+ 1 unrelated link): Tory vid recs. As you can imagine, given the limited footage, there are not a lot of Tory vids out there. Here are two I like very much: I Want to be Evil by beccatoria - Uses a fairly cracky song to great serious effect to show some really clever parallels between Tory and Laura, in response to Laura dumping Tory in season 4. I read it as the response Tory should have gotten the time to have. (Watch out for: I want to shoot pool.) All These Things That I've Done by kiki_miserychic - This really dives into Tory season 4 POV, showing her perspective on events and the transfers and realignments of her loyalties, and very visually forces me into her POV throughout. (Watch out for: direction from perfection.) (This also makes me remember how pretty BSG was to vid, damn that show!)

I clapped and cheered and went aww and enjoyed all the ways that Star Trek enjoys its historical roleplay: the way they power-walk in period dress, and the sadness that comes from playing those roles and then having to leave them, and the joy in recreating moments of the past, and the joy that comes from touching the past, and the things the crew learns from it, and the amazing sexiness that is Benjamin Sisko singing. *hugs vid*

There aren't a lot of just 'Darla' gen vids out there. Which makes sense, in a way. I know I always find my self looking at the different relationships in her life and how they contributed to who she was or defined her. Here are some of my favorite Buffy-centric vids Someone Like You by SpuffyPr0ductions. A look at Buffy's life as the Slayer. No Longer Feels Like Home by SpuffyPr0ductions. I'm a huge fan of SpuffyPr0ductions/nvrbnkisst's work, so I could list all of her other vids here as well. This one looks at Buffy's depression in season 6. Drumming Song by BuffyProdz. A Buffy/Willow/Faith-centric vid, but we could always use more ladies to love, right? And this has beautiful editing. Buffy Summers - One Girl Revolution by Chris31313. It's a cliche kickass women song, but it fits Buffy perfectly. Suburbia by Dualbunny. A look at the lonely life of the Slayer. Creep by BradCPU. Buffy and her two shadow selves, Faith and Spike. Caroline is one of the few characters empowered by her vampirism. She goes from ditzy ingenue to empowered woman through the course of season 2, where she overcomes her insecurities to save her friends. Some Caroline-centric vids. We're keeping busy, yeah, we're bleeding stones With our machinations and our palindromes Anything but hear a voice that says we're basically alone Dropped by valamd (YouTube link) Alt!Team fun and fantastic dorkiness -- Lincoln features most prominently, but Charlie and Olivia get their say too. Such a feel-good vid that captures the dynamic of these three amazingly well. Mad World by beccatoria An ensemble vid and gen, if with a clear focus on Olivia and Walter, their parallels and patterns. Deeper and darker notes, duh, although I must say I love Mad World, so this is even more subjective than usual. Leave Out All The Rest by scifi_tv_addict This is a perspective not so much on but by Alt!Liv, and especially the beginning and the end resonate. The Dream and the Tunnel Pie House Rats by kiki_miserychic A riff on Brown Betty; a perfectly atmospheric video to the tune of the episode. I love how Kiki blends only fragments but creates a seamless whole. Come around by scifi_tv_addict Why yes, ma'am, it's true: I ship Alt!Liv/Alt!Lincoln. Generally have a thing for Lincoln in all his permutations, obviously. Alt!Lincoln and Alt!Liv, c'mon, they could so be snarky BFFs by day and red-hot lovers by night! Actually, I'd bet a vineyard in California on Lincoln wanting exactly that. Am also totally up for Charlie joining them!

A very nice shipping vid which uses dialogue mixed with the music to make its point. The colors at the beginning are amazing, and I really like some of the artistic conceits. Evil Angel by Asmothesly. Gen, theme: Angels, to Breaking Benjamin's 'Evil Angel', violence; spoilers through 5.10. Beautifully executed, and the thematic exploration of violence among angels- for good, for bad- is really impressive. It's a great reminder that whatever the angels of Supernatural are, they are never innocent little woobies. [Disclaimer: The style isn't what I usually go for, but I love the result. Additional disclaimer: This one has a higher view rate than I would usually rec.] Poison and Wine by Elisa. Dean/Castiel, to The Civil Wars' 'Poison and Wine'. Her editing is beautiful and poignant, and as a shipper myself I enjoyed the lack of manipulation- this is all longing looks and casual touches from the show. After the season 6 finale, the shipper in me also appreciates any and all explorations of the dangerous, destructive qualities of love. [Disclaimer: I almost didn't link this because the clip quality is low, and the white balance is off by a lot in some of them, I think unintentionally. I think the song and the editing make up for it, though.] Clips through the end of season 6. Cosmic Love: Team Free Will Versus the Agents of Fate by aquaenumen. Gen, Florence + The Machine's 'Cosmic Love'. Vidder summary: What would you rather have: peace, or freedom? Spoilers through the end of season 5; a reflection on the team. Baby in a Trenchcoat by MoogleCrunch. Ending on a funny note! Justin Beiber- no, really, just say that it's ironic. Lighthearted commentary on Dean/Cas moments. Music is intercut with dialogue.

This song came to me via a McShep vid by perkin127, which became part of my daily mantra while writing the story because it exemplified Rodney’s confusion when he and John return to Atlantis, and he keeps reaching for John, but sincerely believes that there’s no hope for what any of what they had on Skandar to continue. Why Walk When You Can Fly - Mary Chapin Carpenter. The songvid to this song by Rache and Sandy was one of the reasons I got into SGA in the first place, because of the lyrics and the idea that you might suffer from time to time, but that’s no reason to stop moving and doing what you love. I especially love the lyrics towards the end “you’ve a soul for a compass and a heart for a pair of wings.” As it relates to the story, it seems to talk about Rodney’s willingness (and ability) to turn his back on the horrors of Skandar, and to keep the connection that he and John built between them. I’m In Love - Maria Mena I first heard this song in a Merlin songvid by an unknown vidder. However, I thought the song was the perfect upbeat all-out love song to decorate the end of the story, which is drizzled with kisses and happy, mushy, love stuff. It also could be about the scene where Rodney brings John iced brownies and coffee and finally tells John what he wants. (The vidder dedicated the vid to Lisson17, but that's all I know; if you can help me credit the vidder, I'll be glad to update this post.) Another Sunday - Jefferson Starship I saw this songvid by Jessicaflowne some years back, and since then I have marveled at the vidder’s ability to juxtapose a fairly cheesy song (from a band that had sold out) with a sci-fi show, and make this marvelous thing that kept drawing me to SGA even as I resisted.I include it here as a paean to her vidding skills and my love for this vid. We built this city, we built this city on rock and rollBuilt this city, we built this city on rock and roll Life Less Ordinary - Carbon Leaf The songvid Four Years by Fabella (wistful_fever) is of the songvids that drew me to the SGA fandom kicking and screaming and holding on till my fingernails were clawing marks in the floor. It really doesn’t relate to my story at all (it's fun and upbeat, for one thing), but I love it, because in this songvid, John falls in love with Rodney, in spite of himself, which is the way it should be.Man of Devotion - Fool’s Garden This song is included because of a great songvid called Men of Devotion, which is by JulesVids, because it never, ever fails to make me laugh. In it both Rodney and John attempt to convince the other one of their love, the proof of which is their devotion. It’s a lot of fun to watch, with good clips and fast pacing. As it relates to the story, of course, it’s way too upbeat, but it describes Rodney’s devotion to John, even when John is unconscious.Ready for the Storm - Deanat I love Tira Nog's SGA fanfic, especially An Affair to Remember and Resilience, and I was so very pleased to find she makes songvids too. And this one, Ready for the Storm, is about John, who is likened to a sailor at sea, getting ready for the storms to come, which is all the bad things that happen to Atlantis. Along the way, he finds his lighthouse, which is Rodney. If I had had the time, I would have liked to have used this songvid for inspiration for writing John's pov in my fic. At the very least, I can include the song, and credit the vidder, in my soundtrack for the pleasure it has given me.

I love the song choice and the effervescence that fills it. I dare you to watch it and not smile. When the Ship Comes In by chaila (The Wire) I did not expect the song choice but it works so freaking well to demonstrate the wonderfully tragic relationship of Stringer and Avon. My initial thought was to just tell all of you to watch it and write me lots of fic, but due to spoilers: Go watch The Wire, then watch this vid, then write me lots of fic. And seriously, it will be worth your time to complete all those steps. Welcome Home by barkley (Friday Night Lights) I miss this show already. This vid doesn't mitigate that (which would be more than a bit impossibly) but it does distill how great the show was. It's the End of the World as We Know It by danegen (Community) Even a wildly overused song, when applied correctly, can result in an awesome vid. Such is the case here. You Told the Drunks I Knew Karate by settiai (Doctor Who [New]) PONDS! Ponds being precious and heroic and so perfect for each other. [x] lowkey | My vid recs!: FFXII - I Need A Hero danchekker hates this song, and I understand why -- yay rampant misogyny! But the song goes quite well with most Final Fantasy games, a fact that Youtube fanvidders appear to acknowledge. There are many combinations of this song and any number of FF games, but this is the best use of the song that I've found. mako_lies and I talked about the Ashe/Basch pairing this week, so there's that, too. TOS - Tik Tok mako_lies recommended a Toy Story version of Tik Tok, and it was good! But this is by far and away my favorite version of some fandom + Ke$ha. The Doctor vs. The World What happens when you take the trailer of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and make it all about the Eleventh Doctor? Awesomeness is what. There are many, many things I like about this video, even if it doesn't make that much sense -- like Eleven stumbling around from his regeneration, and the Master with Chris Evan's gravely voice, and Ten's conclusion rocks my face off. Quantum Who Yeah, let's just keep rolling with the Doctor Who vids, shall we? The love I have for Quantum Leap is extremely disproportionate to my knowledge of the series; I've seen, like, two episodes in my entire life. But I'm a big fan of the show's concept, and I'm always a fan of good redone opening credits. SO. Oh yeah, here's one for Space: 1999, too. And the Discovery Channel.

[x] schneefink | All the vids: I keep seeing Doctor Who squee and vids, but I don't want more spoilers than I already know. I only watched Handlebars, but that doesn't count. Everyone should watch Handlebars, it's great. I'm busy with SGA and vids right now ... I've apparently decided to watch all the vids. There are so many of them, and they are so shiny! Why have I never seen them before? I want to rec lots of them, but that turned out to be harder than I thought because I have things to say about many of them without yet knowing how, exactly. I have an entire folder titled Oh John Sheppard and almost all of the vids are fairly dark/sad (add to that the John/pain/meta vids), I have four Elizabeth vids that are absolutely fascinating to compare, and the funny folder is worth gold on stressful days. I have some Rodney and Teyla vids, hardly any Ronon, and no Woolsey or Jennifer :( And some vids for other fandoms or multi-fandom that are just stunning. Do you have any favorites that I should see? *puppy dog eyes* The only one I'm reccing right now is Scarborough Fair by keewick, because it was already down and they were so nice to put it online again at my request. The vid is perfectly edited to match the lyrics. The part over the bridge where it shows many of the fallen slays me. This is destined to become a classic that will be around for a long time, I think. Draco's Milkshake by AndieHeartsYou143 Oh, it brings all the boys to the yard. And it's better than Potter's and Snape's and, well, you get the idea. :) This makes me grin like a loon. I Swear by dualbunny; Smallville; Clark/Lex; MPREG OMG Looks like the streaming is down, but you can still dl. I love this kind of vid where a completely different story is woven from existing footage. At the end of this vid, I truly believe that Clark and Lex are the parents of one adorable CatBaby. This is the bestest kind of crack of ever. Secret Agent by llintrek; women of Star Trek I love this vid. First, it's got the subject matter going for it. Not enough love for the ladies of Trek to ever suit Lorraine. :) Secondly, the song is fantastic. She's a sinner (cue Kai Winn); she's a saint (cue Edith Keeler). LOL I also really, really like that this doesn't showcase only the big name ladies; there are some unexpected faces in this vid, and I really like that. I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper by llintrek; women of Star Trek Another fun vid in the same vein as the previous. I LOVE LIKE BURNING the implication here that all the ladies of Star Trek are queer! Yay! OMG the femslash possibilities in this vid. Deanna/K'Ehlehr, anybody? Heroes by llintrek; DS9 I love the tone of this vid. It begins with all the holosuite adventures the crew has and their venture back to Kirk's Enterprise. And then there's a subtle tonal shift. Interwoven with all the fantasy heroics are the crew actually being heroic and leaning on each other. It's extremely emotionally affecting.

It is, and it's great fun even for those of us who've never seen Tron or the sequel. I have no idea who the woman with the dark hair is, but I am fully prepared to state under oath that she's awesome. I did indulge myself by trying to decipher the plot, as though I were playing a visual version of the fannish osmosis game. Here's what I've decided: Tron: Legacy is the story of a near-future society fiercely devoted to virtual reality sporting competitions, which are something like a cross between gladiatorial games and high-tech NASCAR races. The Orange Team is a bunch of dirty cheaters. The Blue Team is in love, seems doomed but will prevail, and some of them might be doping. How'd I do? A quick side comment about the music: it's shocking how much better Lady Gaga is once you add the Eurythmics. Then again, DUH. Annie Lennox would improve anyone. High Voltage, by kuwdora (Gateverse) Universe, Ancients; Ancients, Universe. A+++, for the very great win; a fantastic example of a vid that's smarter and prettier than the source text. This is so well done that I actually have trouble finding things to say about it. Harbour, by beccatoria (Doctor Who, s.5) Oh, Rory. Oh, PONDS. ♥ ♥ ♥ This little vidlet's nearly a year old now, so who knows? Maybe you missed it the first time around and are now looking for a couple of minutes of schmaltzy, unashamed romance.

The Dream and the Tunnel Pie House Rats by kiki_miserychic A riff on Brown Betty; a perfectly atmospheric video to the tune of the episode. I love how Kiki blends only fragments but creates a seamless whole. Come around by scifi_tv_addict Why yes, ma'am, it's true: I ship Alt!Liv/Alt!Lincoln. Generally have a thing for Lincoln in all his permutations, obviously. Alt!Lincoln and Alt!Liv, c'mon, they could so be snarky BFFs by day and red-hot lovers by night! A very nice shipping vid which uses dialogue mixed with the music to make its point. The colors at the beginning are amazing, and I really like some of the artistic conceits. Evil Angel by Asmothesly. Gen, theme: Angels, to Breaking Benjamin's 'Evil Angel', violence; spoilers through 5.10. Beautifully executed, and the thematic exploration of violence among angels- for good, for bad- is really impressive. It's a great reminder that whatever the angels of Supernatural are, they are never innocent little woobies. [Disclaimer: The style isn't what I usually go for, but I love the result. Additional disclaimer: This one has a higher view rate than I would usually rec.] Poison and Wine by Elisa. Dean/Castiel, to The Civil Wars' 'Poison and Wine'. Her editing is beautiful and poignant, and as a shipper myself I enjoyed the lack of manipulation- this is all longing looks and casual touches from the show. After the season 6 finale, the shipper in me also appreciates any and all explorations of the dangerous, destructive qualities of love. [Disclaimer: I almost didn't link this because the clip quality is low, and the white balance is off by a lot in some of them, I think unintentionally. This song came to me via a McShep vid by perkin127, which became part of my daily mantra while writing the story because it exemplified Rodney’s confusion when he and John return to Atlantis, and he keeps reaching for John, but sincerely believes that there’s no hope for what any of what they had on Skandar to continue. Why Walk When You Can Fly - Mary Chapin Carpenter. The songvid to this song by Rache and Sandy was one of the reasons I got into SGA in the first place, because of the lyrics and the idea that you might suffer from time to time, but that’s no reason to stop moving and doing what you love. I especially love the lyrics towards the end “you’ve a soul for a compass and a heart for a pair of wings.” As it relates to the story, it seems to talk about Rodney’s willingness (and ability) to turn his back on the horrors of Skandar, and to keep the connection that he and John built between them. I’m In Love - Maria Mena I first heard this song in a Merlin songvid by an unknown vidder. However, I thought the song was the perfect upbeat all-out love song to decorate the end of the story, which is drizzled with kisses and happy, mushy, love stuff. It also could be about the scene where Rodney brings John iced brownies and coffee and finally tells John what he wants. (The vidder dedicated the vid to Lisson17, but that's all I know; if you can help me credit the vidder, I'll be glad to update this post.) Another Sunday - Jefferson Starship I saw this songvid by Jessicaflowne some years back, and since then I have marveled at the vidder’s ability to juxtapose a fairly cheesy song (from a band that had sold out) with a sci-fi show, and make this marvelous thing that kept drawing me to SGA even as I resisted.I include it here as a paean to her vidding skills and my love for this vid. We built this city, we built this city on rock and rollBuilt this city, we built this city on rock and roll Life Less Ordinary - Carbon Leaf The songvid Four Years by Fabella (wistful_fever) is of the songvids that drew me to the SGA fandom kicking and screaming and holding on till my fingernails were clawing marks in the floor. It really doesn’t relate to my story at all (it's fun and upbeat, for one thing), but I love it, because in this songvid, John falls in love with Rodney, in spite of himself, which is the way it should be.Man of Devotion - Fool’s Garden This song is included because of a great songvid called Men of Devotion, which is by JulesVids, because it never, ever fails to make me laugh. In it both Rodney and John attempt to convince the other one of their love, the proof of which is their devotion. It’s a lot of fun to watch, with good clips and fast pacing. As it relates to the story, of course, it’s way too upbeat, but it describes Rodney’s devotion to John, even when John is unconscious.Ready for the Storm - Deanat I love Tira Nog's SGA fanfic, especially An Affair to Remember and Resilience, and I was so very pleased to find she makes songvids too. And this one, Ready for the Storm, is about John, who is likened to a sailor at sea, getting ready for the storms to come, which is all the bad things that happen to Atlantis. Along the way, he finds his lighthouse, which is Rodney. If I had had the time, I would have liked to have used this songvid for inspiration for writing John's pov in my fic. At the very least, I can include the song, and credit the vidder, in my soundtrack for the pleasure it has given me.

[x] lowkey | My vid recs!: FFXII - I Need A Hero danchekker hates this song, and I understand why -- yay rampant misogyny! But the song goes quite well with most Final Fantasy games, a fact that Youtube fanvidders appear to acknowledge. There are many combinations of this song and any number of FF games, but this is the best use of the song that I've found. mako_lies and I talked about the Ashe/Basch pairing this week, so there's that, too. TOS - Tik Tok mako_lies recommended a Toy Story version of Tik Tok, and it was good! But this is by far and away my favorite version of some fandom + Ke$ha. The Doctor vs. The World What happens when you take the trailer of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and make it all about the Eleventh Doctor? Awesomeness is what. There are many, many things I like about this video, even if it doesn't make that much sense -- like Eleven stumbling around from his regeneration, and the Master with Chris Evan's gravely voice, and Ten's conclusion rocks my face off. Quantum Who Yeah, let's just keep rolling with the Doctor Who vids, shall we? The love I have for Quantum Leap is extremely disproportionate to my knowledge of the series; I've seen, like, two episodes in my entire life. But I'm a big fan of the show's concept, and I'm always a fan of good redone opening credits. SO. Oh yeah, here's one for Space: 1999, too. And the Discovery Channel.

Mad World by beccatoria An ensemble vid and gen, if with a clear focus on Olivia and Walter, their parallels and patterns. Deeper and darker notes, duh, although I must say I love Mad World, so this is even more subjective than usual. Leave Out All The Rest by scifi_tv_addict This is a perspective not so much on but by Alt!Liv, and especially the beginning and the end resonate. The Dream and the Tunnel Pie House Rats by kiki_miserychic A riff on Brown Betty; a perfectly atmospheric video to the tune of the episode. I love how Kiki blends only fragments but creates a seamless whole. Come around by scifi_tv_addict Why yes, ma'am, it's true: I ship Alt!Liv/Alt!Lincoln. Generally have a thing for Lincoln in all his permutations, obviously. Alt!Lincoln and Alt!Liv, c'mon, they could so be snarky BFFs by day and red-hot lovers by night! Actually, I'd bet a vineyard in California on Lincoln wanting exactly that. Am also totally up for Charlie joining them!

It's by far one of my favorite videos of Fang. Final Fantasy XIII : Fang Tribute [AGAIN] Fang/Vanille There's so much I could say about this vid. Seriously, it's just gorgeous. Those You've Known - Sora, Riku, and Kairi Okay, so Spring Awakening and Kingdom Hearts are not the first things I'd think of mixing. Add onto the fact the Japanese subtitles are still on some of the clips in this vid. Normally, I wouldn't be able to handle it. But. Um. This is my OT3, and the video is lovely despite the subtitles. Final Fantasy XII - Zero to Hero Okay, so it's Basch. As Hercules. There's nothing else to say about it, really. XD Baccano AMV Still Alive This vid is freaking awesome. On so many levels. [x] schneefink | All the vids: I keep seeing Doctor Who squee and vids, but I don't want more spoilers than I already know. I only watched Handlebars, but that doesn't count. Everyone should watch Handlebars, it's great. I'm busy with SGA and vids right now ... I've apparently decided to watch all the vids. There are so many of them, and they are so shiny! Why have I never seen them before? I want to rec lots of them, but that turned out to be harder than I thought because I have things to say about many of them without yet knowing how, exactly. I have an entire folder titled Oh John Sheppard and almost all of the vids are fairly dark/sad (add to that the John/pain/meta vids), I have four Elizabeth vids that are absolutely fascinating to compare, and the funny folder is worth gold on stressful days. I have some Rodney and Teyla vids, hardly any Ronon, and no Woolsey or Jennifer :( And some vids for other fandoms or multi-fandom that are just stunning. Do you have any favorites that I should see? *puppy dog eyes* The only one I'm reccing right now is Scarborough Fair by keewick, because it was already down and they were so nice to put it online again at my request. Go see before it's gone again :)

The vid is perfectly edited to match the lyrics. The part over the bridge where it shows many of the fallen slays me. This is destined to become a classic that will be around for a long time, I think. Draco's Milkshake by AndieHeartsYou143 Oh, it brings all the boys to the yard. And it's better than Potter's and Snape's and, well, you get the idea. :) This makes me grin like a loon. I Swear by dualbunny; Smallville; Clark/Lex; MPREG OMG Looks like the streaming is down, but you can still dl. I love this kind of vid where a completely different story is woven from existing footage. At the end of this vid, I truly believe that Clark and Lex are the parents of one adorable CatBaby. This is the bestest kind of crack of ever. Secret Agent by llintrek; women of Star Trek I love this vid. First, it's got the subject matter going for it. Not enough love for the ladies of Trek to ever suit Lorraine. :) Secondly, the song is fantastic. She's a sinner (cue Kai Winn); she's a saint (cue Edith Keeler). LOL I also really, really like that this doesn't showcase only the big name ladies; there are some unexpected faces in this vid, and I really like that. I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper by llintrek; women of Star Trek Another fun vid in the same vein as the previous. I LOVE LIKE BURNING the implication here that all the ladies of Star Trek are queer! Yay! OMG the femslash possibilities in this vid. Deanna/K'Ehlehr, anybody? Heroes by llintrek; DS9 I love the tone of this vid. It begins with all the holosuite adventures the crew has and their venture back to Kirk's Enterprise. And then there's a subtle tonal shift. Interwoven with all the fantasy heroics are the crew actually being heroic and leaning on each other. It's extremely emotionally affecting.

It is, and it's great fun even for those of us who've never seen Tron or the sequel. I have no idea who the woman with the dark hair is, but I am fully prepared to state under oath that she's awesome. I did indulge myself by trying to decipher the plot, as though I were playing a visual version of the fannish osmosis game. Here's what I've decided: Tron: Legacy is the story of a near-future society fiercely devoted to virtual reality sporting competitions, which are something like a cross between gladiatorial games and high-tech NASCAR races. The Orange Team is a bunch of dirty cheaters. The Blue Team is in love, seems doomed but will prevail, and some of them might be doping. How'd I do? A quick side comment about the music: it's shocking how much better Lady Gaga is once you add the Eurythmics. Then again, DUH. Annie Lennox would improve anyone. High Voltage, by kuwdora (Gateverse) Universe, Ancients; Ancients, Universe. A+++, for the very great win; a fantastic example of a vid that's smarter and prettier than the source text. This is so well done that I actually have trouble finding things to say about it. Harbour, by beccatoria (Doctor Who, s.5) Oh, Rory. Oh, PONDS. ♥ ♥ ♥ This little vidlet's nearly a year old now, so who knows? Maybe you missed it the first time around and are now looking for a couple of minutes of schmaltzy, unashamed romance.
