I like Lisa and Ben, and I hope they stay a more or less permanent fixture in Dean's life. I think that him having a separate life from Sam is a good thing for them. They were too unhealthily codependent and it was suffocating. Dean needs the family life of his own he's obviously always wanted, to do it his way and escape his father's shadow, and Sam needs to be able to go off and hunt on his own, to be independent without his brother breathing down his neck all the time.

I agree that their relationship was unhealthy. However, it wasn't the clinging, grasping part of their duo I liked -- it was those rare, beautiful moments when they were utterly in sync, the perfect team.

A lot of people use the word codependent, and IDK, I don't always think it's a bad thing. My parents are, not because they are pathetic people who can't live on their own but because they've really chosen to need each other. And they have the strongest, most stable marriage I've ever seen.

And their partnership isn't a marriage, but I think the principal applies. We saw it a little towards the end of season one when Sam finally gave up on ever being a civilian again, and him and Dean were just two brothers who loved each other and hunted evil. I want to get back to that, before all the mistrust.

Of course, the quintessential problem to any 'two brothers/bffs, warriors together' story is the love interest. Witness the 2009 Sherlock Holmes. :)

Wow, that was a lot more meta than I meant it to be. Forgive me, I'm sick and sleepy.

Postscript: If you've seen and liked Inception at all, you should check that fandom out. It's immensely fun and clever.
