I found this interesting to read - thanks for taking the time to write and post it. For what it's worth, some things do get remembered and I'm hoping this will be one of them.
I've been planning an account of my own that I might finally get around to soon. In general my experience is closer to this than other accounts I've read (pretty much for the reasons you give - I still have work, I can do it remotely, my kids don't need supervision being technically adults, etc).
I appreciate that your kids are only-just-adults, but I wonder if parents ever move from on from thinking their kids are only "technically" adults. Pretty sure my parents still think of me that way :-)
Y12, says the Y12 mathematician in the house. Yes, smallclanger is now that old. He's very chuffed at the moment, having realised he will get A Level Maths without "any work" (his group were all entered in January, a year early, as is standard at his school). We thought he was escaping the whole exam mess but forgot he would be in that cohort anyway, for this one subject.
Aha! I was just thinking when I read your post the other day that he must be a Moderate or even a Large Clanger by now. I'm pleased there is at least one chuffed person to counteract all the "I really wish I'd put more effort into my mocks" people :-)
Fairly Large Clanger, indeed. Not quite 6ft yet and definitely getting broader again, so possibly due another upward growth. I hope it's not really soon or he'll have to spend most of lockdown in shorts.
He's already sat the mock apparently and "I know I did ok because we got our scores back". He can't remember what they were, naturally, and we think it's likely an A rather than A*, but for essentially 2 terms' work that will be absolutely fine. And he can retake next year if for some reason the predictions deviate from the school reports. His other subjects are Further Maths, Physics, and Computer Science, and he's already been paid for coding work (ongoing, he's currently discussing buying me a Switch with his earnings!) so no worries over his future right now. :D
