CHARACTER NAME | Sage Harpuia
CHARACTER SERIES | Megaman Zero
CANON POINT | Megaman Zero 3
DESIRED CLASS & REASONING | Twin Blade - It couldn't be any easier to decide! Harpuia uses twin Sonic Blades in game and is a fast character as well. His design suits the Twin Blade character models too.
BACKGROUND |
Created to be one of the Four Guardians of Neo Arcadia, Harpuia has mastery of the sky and is the General of the Rekku Army as a result. He's named after the 'Harpy' of legend but his design takes cues from Valkyries and other air associated mythological creatures.
The Four Guardians worked along side X to lead and protect Neo Arcadia. And for a century, the five of them along with the 8 Gentle Judges were doing fairly well. Until the Energy Crisis occurred. Since Reploids used up the most energy in Neo Arcadia, Mavericks were being executed with greater frequency than before even though many of the accused 'Mavericks' were nothing more than innocent Reploids accused of committing some petty crime or another. A Resistance group was created to combat the unfair prejudice against the Reploids, with very little success. Harpuia and his fellow Guardians, Fefnir, Leviathan and Phantom, squashed all attempts made by the Resistance to disrupt Neo Arcadia. For a while, it appeared as though the 'Resistance' was nothing more than a feeble attempt at rebellion.
Obviously, they needed a 'Zero'.
Whom they found! A hundred years after the end of the Elf Wars, the legendary Reploid, Zero, was found by Ciel, a human scientist who worked with the Resistance. The Guardians and X didn't pay much attention to the Resistance's new find initially, thinking of it only as one of those usual attempts at throwing Neo Arcadia into disarray. It wasn't until Mechaniloid after Mechaniloid got destroyed that Neo Arcadia finally sent in the Guardians to clean up and squash the opposition. Of course, this is Zero we're talking about. So he promptly flattens the Guardians (all four of them), launches an attack on the Neo Arcadia headquarters (on his own) and then proceeds to knock out the Guardians again (Phantom's kamikaze attack did nothing) all ending in the utter defeat of Copy X and the destruction of his Fortress. And who said that such a feat was impossible?
One year later...
Harpuia found Zero, beaten and battered in the middle of a desert. Apparently, the poor guy had lost track of his rebellion and been left on his own for the entire year.
"To live or to die..."
The General of the Rekku Army chose to let Zero live, perhaps because he wanted to 'retire' the Reploid properly or perhaps because he was more similar to the original X than anyone else had expected. Either way, Harpuia dropped Zero off at the new Resistance Base before flying off in a green blur. The guerrilla attacks on Neo Arcadia continued, many of them were only mild successes except the ones that Zero himself participated in (many a follower was terminated as a result). When Elpizo went through with Operation Righteous Strike though, the remaining Guardians set about 'retiring' all the Resistance fighters that had set out alongside their Commander. Had Zero not appeared, they would have 'retired' the flamboyant pink commander too. As it was, Harpuia stopped Leviathan and Fefnir's attempt to fight Zero and revealed that there was a missile being launched at the base while he was out. Despite all three Guardians showing a clear distaste for this tactic, so long as the Resistance posed a threat to Neo Arcadia, Harpuia would swallow his pride and do anything in his power to terminate it.
But the failed Strike by Elpizo set off a chain reaction that sealed everyone's fate. The 'peaceful' days of Neo Arcadia as Harpuia knew it was coming to an end.
Driven mad by his failure, Elpizo went to collect the Baby Elves and release the Dark Elf that the original X had sealed away a century ago. The Guardians set off to try and stop the Commander, but whether Leviathan or Fefnir were affected by the Baby Elves or not, the two of them left finding Elpizo to Harpuia and went to fight Zero instead. That left Harpuia on his own, and Elpizo - supported by the two Baby Elves - defeated the last Guardian. Then promptly had the Baby Elves possess the defeated warrior so that he would fight Zero with the intention of killing them both (wishful thinking by far). Upon being freed of the possession (by getting owned) Harpuia had to resort to asking Zero to put an end to Elpizo, and to protect Master X from the madman. Zero agreed - obviously - and set off...
He couldn't reach the seal in time to stop Elpizo from freeing the Dark Elf and destroying X's body.
Two months later, Ciel had completed her energy research and had sent it and a proposal of peace to Neo Arcadia. As the steward of the colony, Harpuia along with his comrades and the Eight Gentle Judges were going over it when a space capsule containing the 'Evil Reploid' Omega crash landed back into Neo Arcadia. The area around the capsule was cordoned off, with the Resistance members who came to investigate it escorted out of the area by Pantheons. Though the Guardians tried to stop Omega from leaving the capsule's landing zone, Fefnir and Leviathan were critically injured, leaving Harpuia the last Guardian standing. Before he could start attacking Omega though, a strange man name Weil appeared alongside another copy of X, much to Harpuia's surprise. He bowed down to X's wishes, despite it conflicting with his own knowledge and values. After all, when two characters that had been banished from Neo Arcadia decades before suddenly reappeared with your leader telling you that 'It was okay', so many different warning lights just had to start sounding. Harpuia returned to a changed Neo Arcadia; the Eight Gentle Judges were no longer so gentle and his fellow Guardians were barely taken care of. The two of them were left in maintenance for most of the game.
Despite Harpuia's best efforts, Weil - having 'upgraded' the Judges and 'resurrected' X - had the upper hand and quickly set about demoted the Guardians due to their failure in stopping Zero. When Weil ordered a missile attack on a human residential area, that was the last straw; Harpuia set out to stop Weil's corrupted 'justice'... And got owned.
Then taken in by the Resistance and repaired by them. His pride has never suffered such a brutal strike.
Once he recovered enough, Harpuia ditched the Resistance group and set off to try and stop Weil and Omega once again. The only thing stopping him? Respawning enemies coming up the hell right now. At least, until Fefnir and Leviathan showed up to back him up. With the three of them finally working together as a team proper, they set off to help Zero - per X's orders - and stop Omega, even if it meant giving up their lives to do so...
PERSONALITY | Harpuia is dedicated and determined. As a guardian of Neo Arcadia, it is his duty first and foremost to protect all humans from rogue Reploids - or 'Mavericks' - and to aid the city in anyway he can. The most responsible/sensible of the Four Guardians after Phantom, Harpuia has all the traits needed for a leader and does, indeed, become the temporary leader of Neo Arcadia following Copy X's defeat at the hands of Zero. He doesn't approve of the idea of attacking and destroying the Resistance that Zero and Ciel are a part of but so long as they threaten the well-being of the people living in Neo Arcadia, he's willing to cut down anything without a second thought.
Despite the somewhat noble intentions of this Reploid, he does display a certain taste for violence that Leviathan and Fefnir share. He's proud and can't stand losing to anyone as a result. The appearance of Zero and the Guardians' subsequent losses to the 'legendary' Reploid fueled a sort of one-sided obsession between them and him, partly due to the Guardians' pride and partly because they just love the challenge. Or were corrupted by the Dark Elf/Baby Elves that were running around. Either way, he has a sort of hero worship of X and unholy desire to kick Zero's ass in a just and fair manner. ... Yea, I don't get it either.
By the end of his life, he's come to realize how dear his comrades are to him - what with Fefnir and Leviathan's near destruction at the start of the game along with the conversion of the Eight Gentle Judges - along with what truly matters. It isn't the name of Neo Arcadia or his position as one of the Four Guardians, but the lives of the people living in the colony.
FIRST-PERSON SAMPLE |
[text;]
Granted, there never was much information about cyberspace, but this? This is nothing like what I expected to be. In regards to my present appearance in particular. But it's peaceful here...
Mac Anu, was it? If everything will be returned to me when I reach level 20, then so be it.
THIRD-PERSON SAMPLE |
He had gone after Elpizo in order to prevent the Maverick from harming Master X and releasing the Dark Elf. He had gone after him despite the nagging in the back of his mind to find Zero. What had happened to Leviathan and Fefnir anyway? Weren't they suppose to back him up? Hadn't he ordered them to help stop this madman?
It didn't matter now. Harpuia had been beaten because his heart wasn't in this fight, because something kept distracting him and no matter what he did, no matter how hard he tried to remember that protecting Neo Arcadia should be his first priority, he couldn't focus. The green reploid hadn't noticed the Baby Elves behind Elpizo until after their fight. And by then-
By then, Zero had arrived. Elpizo began repeating why he was after the Dark Elf and for him to do that he had to destroy X.
"I won't let that happen!" Harpuia ground out. Despite everything that had happened, he knew where his loyalties lay; the General of the Rekku Army would not allow this ex-Neo Arcadian to harm Master X in anyway.
The next few minutes were a complete blur to Harpuia and no matter how he tried to recall the events later, the only thing the reploid knew for certain was that he had not been himself. Would he have liked to fight Zero? Of course, but not in that circumstance. That would have hardly been the proper way to retire Zero. The last thing he could remember before losing control of his body - it felt like he was being shocked and torn apart from the inside - was pleading with Zero to kill him in order to prevent the reploid from possibly attacking the people in Neo Arcadia. After that...
