growing up is learning to deal with situations, and no one ever said it would be easy or fast. growing up is also learning to deal with PEOPLE - and learning to respect their space.
I've always thought that growing up was an undesirable path; I am more convinced of that now than ever. It is also nearly (except in the case of an unfortunate accident or terminal illness) inevitable, so one may as well do it well.
You mention the easy aspects, or at least the ones I think I have accomplished. I can deal with a number of situations, and many people (though not aggressive ones; I tend to let them have their way and then get away from them as fast as possible). (Come to think of it, I deal with crude people that way too. And mean people. Hm, maybe I'm not so good at dealing with people. I deal easily with nice, polite people (who doesn't ?), but I also deal rather well (who knows why ?) with tired or upset people. It's harder if there is a third party, though.)
