Shanghai - food, tall towers and too much alcohol

Jul 09, 2009 02:44

So its now 48 hours since I arrived and I have done a lot of stuff it feels like. From where I last left off I've been out to dinner twice, been up and down two incredibly tall buildings (tallest in the world or something, I forget if there have been taller since) and I've also got drunk at the Cotton Club and then gone for dinner after with the ( Read more... )

Sounds exciting :)

Do these "coffee girls" really just serve coffee...?

Also and most importantly - can you or Andy please send me a link to something about this registration malarky? I can't find anything about it on the internet but I feel like I should know about it.

I've also just realised I probably won't be able to take my sterile first aid kit on the Eurostar because they don't allow hypodermic syringes, so all in all I'm feeling a bit stupid at the moment!

FWIW I had a sterile first aid kit in my bag on the Eurostar and, um, no one seemed to notice (nor did it cause any issues on any other form of transport I used). Stick it at the bottom of the bag & you'll probably be fine :)

Or possibly if you don't want to try that I am sure a doctor would happily write a note saying you needed them.
It isn't quite the same as diabetes but they are recommended quite strongly when travelling.

I'm leaving Friday morning, travelling to London tomorrow, so unfortunately I don't have time to find a doctor to do this (my current registered GP is in East London and charges £25 per letter).

The current plan is phone tomorrow to see if it's ok, and then take them along with me, point out that it's sealed with sealed things inside, explain, and hope :s

It was lovely chatting to you online! And the photo's do look pretty amazing. Also authentic hot pot sounds great - I've tried it once when my friend from Hong Kong had a hot-pot evening and it was sooooo tasty. It's like a healthier fondue with more soup and less cheese...

Yeah, jpegs don't generally compress when you zip them since it's already a compressed format.

This is at the top of the aperture and actually has a glass floor so you can look down.

Ooh, I love stuff like that!

I'm amused by the way that in this photo you're so drunk that the picture is blurry around you. How did you manage that? ;-)

Indeed you can't zip a JPG.

My Dad's in Shanghai these days. I guess I should have checked when you were going there, not that you two ever met.

Enjoy. Try not to breathe the air.

Glad you're having fun and adjusting to the heat - I love hot pot too! We've tried doing it as a fondue which works ok but not brilliantly and so Tristam just bought me a proper electric hotpot cooker (from his latest China trip, along with some sichuan peppercorns which I'm sure you'll be eating by the end!) with wonderful buttons all in chinese but explained by his work colleagues... We'll have you round when you return for hot pot and exciting stories!

Yu Garden was the garden the name of which I couldn't remember when I emailed you - I should have remembered given the SG-1 reference really though...
