More Shanghai

So this is more of a filler than a detailed write up. I'll hopefully get a chance to fill in detail tomorrow or something but it depends how I feel really. Despite occasional temptation I will put more effort into seeing China than writing about it. :) This does mean you have some disjointed paragraphs of stuff...

Nothing wrong with disjointed paragraphs. Do resist the temptation.

(Yup. Someone had to.)

bronze carvings (far too many wine containers... a person might get the wrong idea)

Interesting. Don't thinnk of classic China as being a booze culture. Any ideas what sorts of "wine" they were drinking? Is there still a traditional drink (like maybe ouzo, or grappa) that is the remnants of whatever harsh-but-effective recipes used to be used?

Hope the train is/was good. Nice way to get a feel for distance and landscape.

See Li Po for prevalence of drunkenness in classical Chinese culture! It would mostly have been rice wine, although I believe they were at least aware of grape wine.

Chris, I sense you're holding something back about these coffee girls. Filtered or freeze-dried instant?
