Need suggestions for good authors

I was going to write about the elections, then I realized everything I wanted to say had already pretty much been said on here. I am so glad Pennsylvania went almost entirely Democrat - not to mention more than half the rest of the country ( Read more... )

Me! Me! Meeeeeeee! *waves arms*

(They throw you out of the Authors Guild if you let opportunities like that pass you by. From the sound of it, you'd like NOCTURNE.)

Also you might consider the Rowan Gant supernatural mystery series by M.R. Sellars. I believe the first book is HARM NONE. Really good stuff. If you can, though, order directly from Merv's web site at www.mrsellars.com - we small press authors get KILLED by Amazon.

Ok, great, how do I order it? Here's your chance to sell your stuff - or did I miss the big "Order my Books HERE" button on your page? Regardless, I want it. I'll check out M.R. Sellars and order direct from the site. Understood about Amazon.

Muahahaha. Another falls into my evil clutches. :D

NOCTURNE is available at every Borders. If they don't have it, they can order it for you. Or you can order it direct from me - I have a scant few copies left, I think. It's getting hard to keep in stock - it's close to selling out its print run. :) It runs $16.50.

SETTING SUNS (horror anthology) you can also order from me - it's generally faster than ordering through Amazon or the publisher. It's $13.

If you order from me, my site takes Paypal at elizabethdonald@yahoo.com. Shipping is flat-rate $4. If you order through your bookstore, they won't charge you shipping, but then it won't be signed. :)

And thank you!

These are some of the books I've read this year that might be appealing to you:

Deceit by James Siegel and Dylan Baker.
Second Glance [novel]- Jody Picoult
Anansi Boys [novel]- Neil Gaiman
Body Double [novel]- Tess Gerritsen (or any of Gerritsen's novels)
Beautiful Lies [novel]- Lisa Unger
American Gods [novel]- Neil Gaiman
In Cold Blood [non-fiction novel]- Truman Capote

Good picks! I read anything by Neil Gaiman and Tess Gerritsen, and read In Cold Blood years ago - have to check the others out.

Might I suggest some Jay Wiseman. Tricks to please a man/woman (2 books) is good reading for a lazy slut. :P

I would strongly recommend Robin Hobb (Assassin's Apprentice/Farseer-Trilogy, the Liveship traders and the tawny man trilogy are all set in the same world but the 1st and the third are consecutive)

I used to really like Orson Scott Card (Maps in the Mirror is a good anthology of short stories while Ender's game is a classic) but his political views make me want to kick his teeth in.

I think I already have at least the one book by Jay Wiseman (autographed, too) so there! Phhbbbbbtttt!!! Have to get the 2nd one, though, as you're sadly better at pleasing a woman than I am.

I have a bunch of Robin Hobb books around somewhere, but will need to see if I have them in order. Out of sequence reading - yuck!

Hate to say it, but I've had the Ender's Trilogy (which is what, 5 books?) for a while now, but haven't read them yet. I can ignore politics I don't agree with.

Any other suggestions on books about pleasing a woman? I already have Lou Paget, but most of the women I meet are more vanilla than kinky, so Paget works.

I'll second the Jim Butcher recommendation. I'm hooked on his Harry Dresden novels, can hardly wait for the next one to come out in April.

But do read our own talented reannon! Her anthology of horror stories, Setting Suns, is super fantastic, but if you like supernatural romance then you'll especially enjoy Nocturne. Order directly from her to get a signed copy, or look for Elizabeth Donald's work at your local bookstore.

Also, try Marge Piercy. I find her work uneven, or perhaps it's just that some stories are more appealing to me than others. I didn't like Summer People, but some of my friends love it. I had a lot of fun reading He, She and It, even if some of the ideology was heavy-handed; the same with Woman on the Edge of Time. I've seen excellent reviews of her latest, a historical fiction called Sex Wars, and it's on my to-read list ( ... )
