I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday... and to those still traveling, my wishes for a safe trip and happy return.
It was all sooo... overwhelming.
Just as Hilchan predicted. She loves it when I admit that she was right. The weekend zoomed by with awkward moments of dragging to no end.
Friday was getting all last minute shopping and wrapping done. The wrapping part was simple since we used gift bags for everything... but there was still tape to deal with, tissue paper and scissors. It was a nightmare.
Saturday was getting up early to drive to Auburn for Hilchan's family. Her grandparents' new house is enormous. Six bedrooms... and that was just in the completed section of the house. We won't even get into the room avaialble in the basement. Anyway... we had a late lunch/grazing style dinner with them before the family decided to open gifts on Xmas Eve.
Very nice. Afterwards, the family played trivial pursuit. It was nice.
Though a very strange thing happened... Hilchan's nieces and nephew suddenly took an interest in me, specifically the boy. He wanted me to be his new bestest friend in the whole wide world... which of course meant I had to watch him play with his new toys and listen to him explain to me how everythign was supposed to work.
Cute kid.
Then it was off to bed to wait for Xmas morning. I thought we were pretty much done... nope. The immediate family gifts were then exchanged. ::: shrugs shoulders ::: I have no idea why, but it was cool. Presents are always nice.
After breakfast then, Hilchan and I hopped in the car and headed for Atlanta to see my Dad's side. We got there a little after noon and caught up. After my brother and his wife showed up, we did a quick exchange of gifts before the chaos was to ensue.
See... every year, the family demands that someone hosts a party so that everyone can get together. Dad lost this year and was forced to host. That meant he was cooking and preparing for over twenty people to show up for dinner. It went great, of course, but was three hours of insanity.
Hilchan and I stayed until the next morning, both of us having Monday off, before heading home... but not before stopping off and doing a quick bit of after Xmas shopping to but a new flat screen LCD television.
YEAH!!!
Now I can watch Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in HD!!!
I'm so excited.
Oh yeah... we also got other presents.
