More Fulbright ranting (because at the moment it's my life)

I feel better about my Fulbright application today than I did last time. I had my interview, was told that I am an excellent candidate, got to talk about my essays with four awesome professors who gave me lots of fabulous tips on how to improve them (I was getting writers' block with all the written feedback, so it was good to switch things up a ( Read more... )

i'm confused. why don't you want to apply for the austrian fulbright? i mean, if you can apply for both, why don't you go for it? yes, it'll be a lot of work but isn't it better to keep your options open? you asked what you should do if you didn't get the taiwanese fulbright but you did get the austrian one, but it sounds like there's not really a question involved -- if you only got the austrian one, you could still go spend another year in austria, and it's not as if you don't want to go back...maybe i missed something?

anyway, i'm sure you're going to do just fine =) good luck with everything. it's nice to hear about all the goings-on at denison even though i missed chanticleer, lol. this semester has been worth it though -- we're doing dido & aeneas with period instruments (a harpsichord, viola da gamba, teorba, etc) so the musicologist in me is super happy.

love youuuu!

I don't necessarily have anything against applying for an Austrian Fulbright, and I probably will do both, but it kind of bothers me that so many people have told me they think I should apply for the Austrian one. It's like they're somehow confused about me wanting to go to Taiwan instead.

Period instruments sound fun! Are you playing any of them?

ah, i see. yeah, i see where you're coming from in that case. =/

haha no, not playing any of them -- i'm singing in the chorus, but it's good fun anyway.

Well, chorus is also good. I wish I could see it, but alas! Australia is a bit far from Ohio.

I am rather fond of Austria, yes :) I probably will apply for the Austrian Fulbright, and I know I would enjoy it if I did it. Taiwan is just my top choice.

I'm not actually taking a translation theory course; I just checked out all the books our library has on the topic. I'm doing the first half of my senior research project on translation theory, and unfortunately my advisor doesn't know anything about it. Do you have any tips on good texts?

Availability in German works for me, since I'm writing the paper in German. The main question is whether or not I can actually get copies of them through our library... I already have some Venuti, so I guess that's a good start. Thanks for the suggestions!
