For those of you that don't already know, yes I am running a forum for discussion of motions to be put forward for vote at the coming Pagan Network AGM, yes it is private, no I will not be opening it to the majority of Full Members, yes it's democratic so all motions agreed that we're going to submit have been decided by a majority vote, no, we're ( Read more... )

I think this is a great idea Vera, and I believe will be ultimately beneficial to the Committee as it reduces the risk of multiple motions being submitted that are very similar to each other.

People do often get antsy about discussions "behind closed doors", but they are inevitable in such a situation. And of course it is natural to restrict this stage to people with broadly similar concerns, as it is not this group that make the final decision on the motions but the wider PN membership.

An online "smoke-filled room" is essential given the geographic spread of interested parties.

By not opening such a forum to all full members, that's not democratic. It means that you're saying that certain people aren't worthy to have an opinion and/or a voice. Only the *elite* group of FMs can bring forward this consolidated list of motions to table. Doesn't that strike you as odd, and against the spirit of a democracy? All animals are made equal, but some are more equal than others, perhaps?

That said, I think it's great that you're getting in clearly defined motions before the deadline date. And it appears that I've been a bit of a complete one-sider. No. I am trying to stay impartial, and if motions make sense and are beneficial, fantastic. I don't think anyone could argue with that.

The point of having it closed to a small number of people (currently 20 exactly) is that if too many people get involved, there is less chance of us agreeing to put them through. The fact we have this forum for this purpose doesn't mean that no-one else can set up something similar, or submit motions of their own ( ... )

Your logic is flawed. Your opinion on the motions being beneficial - beneficial to who? It's like the American Eugenics movement, which said that all their ideas were for the 'benefit' of the United States and its people. Sorry but I'm always wary of groups that aren't open apart from a single vague mission statement.

And I don't want to know who's involved. Frankly I couldn't give a damn, and as it stands I don't want anything to do with any of it at all; it's all being turned into a playgroud farce by many.
