the little sticks that could

Jul 16, 2005 21:17

Today, such a proud day.

Chicken chow mein at Slurp in Berkeley.

First meal eaten entirely with chopsticks.

I'm ready to take on the world.

One dish at a time.

You're going to be feasting on sticks for the rest of your trip. That and assorted leaves.

I'll just keep licking my new ring and dipping it in sugar over and over again. That'll sustain me.

Not that I need the sugar.. 'cause this thing is so damn sweet. My fingers feel like they just got a prom dress.

And how badass will that middle finger look flipping off some asshole from my badass-belongs-to-anyone-but-me black car?

You can't eat with chopsticks?

You need to work on that. Pure necessity forced me to learn, but it's easy once you get going. The sense of accomplishment the first time around (even if it's small and fleeting) is enough motivation and encoragement to try again the next time, and the next time, and the next time..

It's like mastery one bite at a time.

You pick some up, it falls off, you silently mouth "fuck" for the 40th time; then you pick it up again and get a perfectly bite-sized chunk to stay in your grip long enough to reach your lips.

Patience, grasshopper.

Every time I go to an Oriental restaurant, I always start with the chopsticks, but once I try and eat the rice, I get too pissed off and opt for the fork. Eating rice with chopsticks is the bane of my meager, meaningless existence.

I have no patience. With chopsticks, anyway.

I hope you are enjoying Cali. I drank enough last night for anybody that told me to "have one for them". Reece peaced out on my futon around midnight, while I went out to the bars with Ashley and her friends and I think I finally cached out around 4:00 A.M. Reece = weak sauce.

Yeah, rice and chopsticks is still on my to-do list.

Reece is weak sauce. Always the early-nighter. Admirable, I guess. We never saw him walking around cursing the sun and his stomach at once because of a monster hangover and two hours sleep. But I guess we never did that either... because we have balls of steel.

I am enjoying Cali.. as much as ever.. and intend to return to Flag for another brief weekend soon after getting back on the 22nd.

Livers and stomachs of steel, not balls of steel. For now. 20 years from now I'm going to be cursing myself for dying from liver cirrhosis, probably with an empty bottle of Jack or eight strewn across my vomit-ridden 1970's marmalade carpet.

Give me a buzz next time you're back in Flag.

Does this... does this mean that you... you missed me?

Mmmm. Warm. Fuzzy. Tingly. On the inside. Like a shot of Dran-o, I imagine.

Well color me chipper. I'm back in town.
