2010 In Review

Dec 30, 2010 17:58

Meme, why not? Guess I'll do this for my own amusement before I do my yearly costume review.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Just went to Archon, a local convention.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don't make resolutions other than making a list of yearly costumes (which I'll review in the next entry). I did finish one from my "definites" list and started 2 from my "possibilities" list. Alice was a huuuge project!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Someone I guess I should say I was really close to a year ago just had a baby

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Thankfully no.

5. What countries/states did you visit?

Went to Georgia for Dragon*Con in September, and went to Chicago a few times to visit family.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?

A stable job so I can get into some activities. I'm going to start taking a martial art this year (Krav Maga, it's an Israeli form of self defense) and join the local Costumers Guild

7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Mostly Dragon*Con, I got some costume awards for the first time, met so many nice people

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

The Alice costume, for sure. 7 months of embroidery on a 4+ yard hem. I've never embroidered that much before, and it's nice to know I can do it!

9. What was your biggest failure?

I had times when I had plenty of free time I could have been doing something productive that were just wasted because I couldn't get myself into a productive mood.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Nope, barely a cold, though my costuming job run aggravated my elbow, neck, wrist, back and shoulder problems

11. What was the best thing you bought?

I used my tax refund to buy a shiny new laptop! My old one had crapped out and was too outdated to run my programs efficiently. I can't live without a good computer.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

Not sure

13. Who's behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Something unfortunate that happened between a close friend and I, that I still don't understand why it happened, and it still makes me depressed

14. Where did most of your money go?

Costumes and food

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Both my Alice costume and Dragon*Con combined.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

Not a clue, too lazy to troll through my songs

17. Compared to this time last year are you?
a) happier or sadder: M'eh, probably about the same
b) thinner or fatter: Still a consistant 95lbs, though I think a little poofier
c) richer or poorer: Probably poor-er

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Being Productive

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Watching crap TV instead of sewing

20. How did you spend Christmas?

With the folks and the cats, eating, unwrapping pressies, and playing a card game

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?

*sigh* I wish.

22. How many one-night stands.

I'm not one of those type of girls

23. What was your favorite TV program?

Supernatural, easy. I also watch Bones, Psych, Smallville, and watched all of Stargate: SG-1 on Hulu

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Not *hate*, but hurt and sad

25. What was the best book you read?

I don't know if I read any novels. I did finally read all of my Dressing the Galaxy book

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?

None, unfort.

27. What did you want and get?

*shrugs*

28. What did you want and not get?

A 'between-theater-jobs' job at JoAnn's. Thanks a lot, Linda :p Bitter old woman...

29. What was your favorite film this year?

Harry Potter! Karate Kid was also really good, Iron Man 2 was cool. Narnia was a disappointment. I know I saw more this year but I can't remember

30. What did you do for your birthday, and how old were you?

Dad and I went out to see The Sorceror's Apprentice, the only movie out on my b-day I wanted to see. 27. Slightly depressed that I'm now in my late 20's and I should have my life together by now :p

31. What one thing would have made your year immeasureably more satisfying?

A more in-person social life. I don't have any local friends or a boyfriend yet, I don't go out much because I simply don't know where to go

32. What was your fashion concept for 2010?

I've learned about long-sleeves under tee-shirts, got more Star Wars stuff through Her Universe, and I no longer wear the short-shorts. I've switched to capri's.

33. What kept you sane?

Many of my good internet friends :)

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most.

Michael Shanks, I got into a Stargate frenzy this year, he appeared on both Supernatural and Smallville, AND I got to meet him. He called me 'sweetheart' *squee!*

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Good: Senate Elections. Sends a strong message :)
Bad: Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell... mostly aggravated that women aren't allowed to serve in every post in the military, and 'distraction' is the biggest reason the military cited. So if they repeal DADT, why the hell can't women have the same rights?

36. Who do you miss?

I miss a certain friendship the way it used to be years ago.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
I have a new good friend named Matt through the Rebel Legion (haven't met him in person yet though). I've met a few of my internet friends at D*C briefly like mellymell :)

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.

I read something profound recently but can't for the life of me remember where I saw it or what it was. One lesson that I'm trying hard to learn but just can't seem to is to not let the shit from internet trolls bother me and to not take it personally. I know I need to ignore things, but when people jump me and call me a 'dumbshit' for no reason, it really upsets me and I know it shouldn't.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I would have to research for this *shrugs*

And good news, I got a job interview at Michael's Crafts :) I still might write the CEO of JoAnn's because, let's face it, I don't like Linda ruining my career with a bunch of lies. It's still retail, but with the economy how it is, I just won't be able to find a full time job that someone with two college degrees would normally get. This way I can still do my yearly summer costuming job and just settle for retail and keep my eye out for something better. I may just have to wait until this economy improves and for just the right opportunity so I can still have my toes in the professional costuming pool during part of the year.
