::hugs:: I'm so sorry, honey. I hope things work out, and if there's anything at all that I can do, just let me know. Hang in there, something will turn up.

Threaten to contact the fair housing organization on the grounds of discrimination for everything you can think of, being female, a student, etc...

Also, when you put in an application you should ask where you are in queue, because technically if you are first in line and they don't run someone's application at the same time you should get the apartment. I'll double check that with my mom, she's in real estate, but I'm almost positive that's how the system works, make them tell you where you are in line then they can't pick and choose.

Oh we have... we've threatened to sue their asses but they always pull some buerocratic bullshit. We are rarely actually able to talk to somone in charge, it's always some mindless underling who can't tell us anything.

And as for the second part we've known where we stood line, but they will wait till they have a huge pile of applications before they even start looking at who is qualified, and then from there they send the stack of qualified applications to the owner who takes their own sweet time in arbitrarily chosing who gets it.

And really there's more to our change of plans than just not being able to find a place to live... we're frustrated with the town, we're appaled at the cost of living (8 bucks for a jar of peanutbutter???) and we're coming to realize just how attached we are to the midwest.

Eh probably next step is Wisconsin take two. Looking at a few of the state schools up there. And failing that going to a community college here in Iowa maybe.
