Life in the wastelands was hard. The desperation and constant struggle to survive had consumed the world and while it was a barren, corrupt and highly unsafe territory, it was the place where Duran thrived. Born in Rivet City, a wasteland community on an abandoned military tanker, and later taken to live in one of the many underground vaults that ( Read more... )

Anke didn't understand, fully, why Amata had spurned her; the Overseer hadn't given her an option, and with the officer right next to him, about ready to kill her... it didn't seem fair to be hated. It wasn't fair. She was a good girl, loved her father, loved Amata, wasn't that enough?

Guess not, she thought brokenly, emerging slowly into the light.

She recoiled- Anke had underestimated how much direct sunlight could hurt her eyes. Grateful for the officer helmet she'd jacked from a corpse--killing shouldn't have been that easy, would her dad have been disappointed, probably, yes, he would have, but they'd killed Jonas so maybe it was okay--she kept her head ducked and stood still, shuffling her feet.

Filth, everywhere; it stunk to hell, but Anke was used to things smelling funky down in 101. Depended on where you were at.

Even though she knew better, and had watched Amata close the door behind her, Anke kept glancing back. She still couldn't believe her father... of all people... and her best friend. Why didn't they

The sound of the Vault door cracking open caused Duran to turn, frowning slightly and reaching instinctively for his rifle. He knew the area well, and that sound was one he would never forget. A Vault door was never designed to open, and in his time in the area, Vault 101 was known as one that never -had- opened.

Dropping slightly to a crouch, he started his way towards the door, careful to keep himself silent and hidden. The motion tracker on his pip-boy, an item he had never discarded after the vault, revealed a single person leaving the chamber. Another familiar crash told him that the door was closed behind whoever it was, leading him to question the situation even more so. "What the hell?" he muttered under his breath, cocking the shotgun and stepping out onto the path. His gun was raised.

Whoever it was, was going to answer his questions.

The bat was still clenched tightly in a death grip; Anke was a poor shot with the pistols, so while she kept them on her just in case, for the most part she'd bludgeoned the attacking officers with the weapon she'd found on her dad's desk.

He'd left something behind... he had to have some idea of what would happen when he left! And with Jonas's death, just. Just...

When Duran stepped out into full view, Anke yelped and lifted the bat defensively. Her eyes fell on the shotgun, wide and frightened.

Duran paused, not dropping his weapon but relaxing significantly. Another kid, fresh from the vault and skeeved as all hell. The blood on her clothes and face told him enough for now. Another Vault breaking down in command and going insane. Great. This was just what he needed. Part of him considered just turning his back on her and going on his way, hell he might do that anyway. The girl had a bat and a pistol, and a pip-boy on her arm. She'd find civilization soon enough.

Perhaps.

"You there," he started, reluctantly addressing the issue. "Did you just come out of 101?"
