So after months of idle poking on the internet, I have finally found a gym that interests me a little closer to my work.  In fact, the Cambridge YMCA is only one T stop up from Harvard and directly on the path of my morning and evening commute.

And it offers racquetball.  That's right, tennis in a room.  Leave it to the sixties to take a wholesome ( Read more... )

You are a horrible, gentrified yuppie.

Seriously, though, the Cambridge Y sounds perfect for you considering what it offers for less $! These factors alone probably outweight the one positive I see in your description of the Malden Y: convenience.

Though seriously, if doubling up is cheaper and it is more convenient, I don't see why you shouldn't, if you can't afford it.

Check and see if you even have to. According to my mom (not necessarily the most reliable source) the family Y membership I have is "good at any Y."

I went with the folks to the local Y this morning. I'm currently practicing being retired, and let me tell you, it rocks. We spent the whole morning at the Y- cardio, weights, swimming, hot tub and sauna. My parents apparently do this 2-3 times a week, although my dad's complaining about having to keep his heart rate down since the stroke. I could get used to this.
