It was starting to be warm, finally Sho was able to leave his coat at home and not having to go through the "now you take it off, now you put it on" during the whole day. Somehow, it always put him in a good mood to be finally able to wear lighter clothes. It was hard to look hot and stylish having to wear a thick coat over his carefully selected clothes. But this time it was different, he was happier than the previous years for this happening. The reason? Simple, every day, since four months and five days ago, he would come across the same guy. He was still wondering if they had always crossed paths and he hadn't paid attention or if the other one was new around there, since he hadn't changed his route in all this time he had been working in that company, and that'd make it four years now.
He wasn't exactly sure what had called his attention about the other guy or why he had gotten that obsessed over somebody that he saw only like five minutes each day but the fact was that he was afraid of changing his timing or taking days off because that'd mean that he wouldn't be able to see that guy. Not being able to walk across him on weekends was hard enough but no matter how much he'd walked around the area where he came across him every day, in these four months, he hadn't walk past that guy not even once on a weekend.
There was a time when he didn't see the other guy for two days in a row and he freaked out enough about the possibility of not seeing him again that he had had to take the rest of the second day off. It was insane, the point he had reached of needing to see the other, even if the other wouldn't even spare him a stare most of the days. Somehow, when he saw him wearing a flu mask after those two hell of a days, he had been in the best mood ever that, for now, he'd been able to see him. To the point that he even treated his friends/co-workers for dinner that day.
Nino was always mocking him because of his crush, and honestly, Sho knew he somehow deserved that. Who in his sane mind would fall like that for somebody he didn't know at all? But it was out of his hands, the other guy had something that would attract him every time he saw him.
Sho’s day got even better after walking across him that morning again, that alone always made his day better but that day was one of those days when the other would spare him a look, acknowledging his existence.
It was always the same, Sho would get out of the train station and start walking to the company he worked for and the other would walk in his direction to the opposite side.
As soon as he arrived to his desk, he left down his bag and sighed happily.
"Let me guess, you've walked across the guy, huh?"
After all this time, not even Nino’s comments would disturb him in his bubble of happiness and he wouldn't bother to deny it. "And he looked at me."
Nino just snorted at that and raised his eye brow before Jun arrived and sat on the opposite side to Nino. That had been their desks for already four years and along those years they had got to know each other and became friends.
Jun had been already working there for some time when Sho got in the company and Nino came not long after him. Having to work together during four long years had created some kind of bond between them.
"What happened?" This time it was Jun the one that talked.
"Can't you guess? Our Sho-chan here is in the clouds because his lovely stranger has looked at him this morning."
Jun just laughed at that before turning serious, facing Sho. "Sho, when are you going to talk to him? I mean, maybe someday he'll switch jobs and you won't be able to meet him again, you should try talking to him."
Sho was about to reply that he already knew that when their department boss came in and they had no choice but to work, or in Sho’s and Nino's case, to do as if they were working while one started to daydream and the other playing games on his computer. They've always wondered how it was possible that Nino was lasting that long working there when he'd spent most of his time gaming during work hours.
At the time his work ended, Sho had already packed back his stuff and was ready to leave. It was like a routine, he came down to the street and stayed smoking at the door until he saw the guy approaching and started walking towards him.
He had played thousands of times in his mind, how would it be to talk to him, what'd his name be or what he does for a living. But no matter how, he never dared to talk to him, he was too afraid of that. At least this way, he was allowed to dream, right?
But that day it was different than the others, his stranger wasn't alone that day and that scared Sho to no end. He took a look at him again to check if he was wrong but there was no dude, there was the guy he's been obsessed with for months walking together with a smaller, tanned guy.
Sho froze in his spot, it was the time the other would be coming back home, that was the normal thought, then... was he bringing that other guy home? And who was him? A friend? His... his lover? Sho couldn't move, even when the other two walked in front of him. He was too shocked to even pay attention to their conversation but he could hear clearly that laugh he loved so much and seeing him laughing with that other guy, broke him in pieces. He had loved the other guy's laugh since he heard it as the other was talking on the phone one afternoon and he had fantasized endlessly about being him being the one making him laugh like that. What if the other guy was also the reason for him to laugh that time? What if that guy was the reason of every smile he had seen on the other's face?
When Jun and Nino came out of the building, Sho hadn't moved a bit, still frozen in the same spot, not even caring how stupid he may look now right there.
"What? Your stranger is late?" Nino wouldn't let the minimum chance escape from mocking him, but somehow, Sho's state made his tone softer and he spoke again, this time with a softer worried tone. "What's wrong Sho? What happened?"
Sho snapped back to reality and turned back to his friends. "He... was not alone, he was laughing and walking with another guy... what if he already has somebody?"
Sho's mind was working slower than ever, he couldn't think clearly and he found himself agreeing to go for some drinks without even realizing, but somehow, that sounded exactly what he needed at that moment.
The night went in a blur of alcohol mixed with his whines about how he wouldn’t have a chance to get the love of his life because he was already taken. He didn’t even know how he had arrived home safely after that.
As he woke up the next morning, with the worst hangover ever and still the taste of alcohol lingering in his mouth, he didn't feel the least will to get up and go to work that morning. What if he would see him walking again with that guy? That would mean they've spent the night together and that was something Sho wasn't sure he could deal with.
Still, he got up and started to get dressed, keeping in mind how he should thank his friends for standing two hours of his drunkard whines.
Sho wasn't sure if he wanted to see him today as he stepped out of the train, the fear was stopping him and making him more doubtful than ever. But his desire to watch his face, his smile even if it was because of somebody else, made him go perfectly through his daily schedule. Still, he kept his gaze down, not daring to check the street, searching for the other as he'd done every morning.
He was still looking down when somebody knocked against him and almost made him fall down. That was the only thing that he needed, some idiot knocking him and...
"I'm really sorry, are you okay? I'm sorry, I was just looking for my phone and didn't see you and..." Sho's mouth got dry, there in front of him, blabbering endlessly was his stranger and the fact that his words were directed towards him got him unable to do anything or utter a word. He kept looking at the other’s face as he kept talking, fighting with the hundreds of emotions inside of him at that moment and he may looked as if he was feeling unwell because the other stopped his blabbering and grabbed his shoulders. "Are you okay? Did I bump into you that hard?"
Sho finally came back to reality and was able to find his voice. "N-no, no, no, it's... no. I wasn't looking, it's my fault. I... yeah... sorry." Sho felt like the biggest idiot, nice way to conquer somebody Casanova! Sho would have slapped himself if he wouldn't know that he was already looking enough as an idiot in front of the other guy.
“Are you all right?”
"Y-yeah, don't worry, it's okay. I’m just… not feeling great today, it’s just that."
"Oh, well, now that you mention it, you look paler than normally and you have panda eyes, or well, more than normally but..."
Sho was looking at him in confusion, not knowing how to react to those words. How...? What...? Was the other comparing him with how he normally looks? Wait! Had the other even paid attention to how he normally looks? There were gazillion of questions inside of his mind ready to get out, and it the end, the only thing that came out of his mouth was:
"Eh?"
He was about to self-slap himself mentally again. He was totally screwing the little options he'd ever had with the guy. It was the first time he was talking to him out of his daydreams and he was acting like if he was stupid, but again, the other’s talking brought him back to earth.
"Ah, no, it's not like I stalk you or something, it's just that we have been walking across each other for the last four months and eleven days-“
Sho looked at him in shock and the other suddenly stopped, he was about to talk when the other started talking again in a fast tone. “…well, maybe I should leave? So I won't keep bothering you and so, and I'm sorry again."
Wait! What? Was he counting? Four months and eleven days? Sho made calculations in his mind, coming up with four months and six days exactly... Wait, what?
He snapped back in time to see the other walking away and he decided it was now or never. "Wait! This... I'm Sakurai Sho." Sho extended his hand towards him, hoping the other wouldn't think he was a freak and reject him laughing.
"Oh! Nice to meet you! Aiba Masaki."
Masaki... it fitted him. A name you could smile while pronouncing.
Sho shook his hand with a smile, looking at the other and he could have felt the shock of electricity running through his spine. It sounded stupid, but his hand felt exactly as he had always dreamt.
"Well, I guess I should be leaving now…"
Sho smiled at him and decided to try his luck again. "Yeah... uhmmm... I was wondering if you'd like to go for a drink later... maybe?"
The seconds until the other replied seemed like months to Sho who could feel his chest almost exploding.
"Sure… I'll meet you at the door of your building later?"
“S-sure.”
Sho couldn't believe it, he arrived to his desk, trying to think of ways how to make his day pass by faster. He couldn’t wait to meet him, to know more about him. He shook away the image of Aiba walking together the previous day and focused on the chance he had been given.
He ignored Nino’s comments during the whole day or the smirks Jun would give him any time he looked in his direction. And as accorded, at the usual hour, as he got out of his building, he saw him coming in his direction. But this time it was different, he was no longer a stranger, he was Aiba Masaki and was walking directly towards him.
~Two weeks later~
"So, in conclusion, you both are a pair of idiots, right?" Sho tried to jump over Nino to kick the hell out of him but was stopped but two pair of arms. "Come on, Sho-chan, don't get like that, you know I'm right."
Well, he may be, but that was not the way to say it and second, that it was true didn't made his killer instincts towards Nino calm down.
Two weeks ago, he was finally given the chance to know his stranger and that night they had gone to have some drinks together with Jun, Nino and Aiba's friend, Ohno, who happened to be the guy he saw with Aiba that day, to celebrate officially that they were together.
"So, Ohno-san, let me confirm it again. The reason you were there that day was because Aiba wanted to show you his crush?"
Sho could see Ohno nod and could feel Aiba besides him trying to become smaller and he reached his hand to grab Aiba’s one.
"Ah, Jun, we had to stand “stalker S” getting drunk and whining about the lost chance of being with the love of his life just because “stalker A” wanted to show off the guy he was stalking!"
Suddenly the other three bursted out laughing and Sho really wanted to kill Nino this time for embarrassing him like that.
"Firstly, Ninomiya…" Sho tried to use his scariest voice. "Nobody was stalking nobody and second, I'm going to kill you for real tonight!"
The other three kept laughing and mocking the two of them during the rest of that night but at that point, it didn't matter that much. After all, he had gotten what he wanted and he wasn’t going to let that change.
