I'd suggest you don't worry - just add 3 1/2 teaspoons of mixed spice and see what happens.

*rubs hands together evilly* Oh, my. You shall soon be joining us.

(She was talking about doing something to the we-want-to-stab-them back covers...dunno if she did, but if she didn't, srsly, do NOT read them. They're a crime against all that is good and holy. Oh, and the first 80 or so pages aren't spectacular - first time I read the thing, it took me about two months to read those first pages, and five days to read the entire rest of the series. woo.)

sounds yummy.

Think about it...if you add a spoon of each spice say three spices, and mix it, how many spoons do you have? say, 3. Now you buy premixed spice, how many spoons do you need? still three.

That said, their mix could be slightly different, so I'd always err on the side of caution and add a little less ;-)

i know..i was just having a moment of 'what if it results in there being too much of one spice and it being overpowering?'.

Iagree with whats been said before - looking at the quantities you should end up with a couple of dozen biscuits.

I'll see if I can wrench my mothers maple syrup cookie receipe out of her, but I warn you that they are addictive

Don't worry about the spice balance too much as you can never tell how strong a single spice is going to be with it's freshness and when it was ground and thing. Last years christmas cake tasted very strongly of cloves despite using all the right balance of spices in the recipe as the clove (and nutmeg) were freshly ground by me, but the cinemmon and allspice were preground. Mixed spice should be fine.
lots of love
