That's true about the young nanny/aupair. Someone suggested the au pair thing to us, but I really really really did not want a total stranger moving in with us for any length of time. 1)Our house is small and we'd have no privacy or space for guests. 2)I know most of the time au pairs work out fine, but Ive heard too many horror stories of the foreign au pair getting a job in the US and then stealing from their employer and/or taking off, now that they are in the US legally.
Im having a hard enough time keeping some semblance of order and getting food on the table as it is, and it seems like getting an au pair would be like taking on an extra child (albeit an older one with more independence). I have enough children. :)
But yeah, I can have a nice relationship with the boys' caregiver (C) because she is like me: she works, she has kids (hers are grown, she actually has grandkids) and she understands my lifestyle. She clearly cares about the children in her care and they all seem to be nice kids.
Well, to be fair, I think that hiring an aupair would make you MORE likely to be able to get dinner on the table :). A college student helper isn't really another child
