I can only speak for myself, but, in that capacity, I say don't give yourself a hard time about keeping a low profile in your combat against homophobia. Pragmatically, it is clearly the right thing to do, and I would do the same.

Keep the reports coming, buddy.

I have always respected you for your deep values and the respect you have on human life. Your right on not arguing about homophobic behaviors. They are the ones who have empty lifes, and closed minds. You're a good man. Look forward to seeing you soon.

You know, I found homophobia to be a much worse problem in the Air Force than in the Army. There were several men in my unit who were obviously gay and another one who was always asking questions like, "If a woman does you with a strap-on, it's still technically heterosexual, right?"
Nobody cared. The AF is hyper homophobic, though. The most common negative adjective I heard during my activation was "gay." Funny how "gay" somehow went from happy to bad.

You touched my heart guy. Thank you so much for writing this. I cant imagine what you are going through right now. I do not know you or even the slightest bit about you but I can tell from the way you write and explain things, you have your head on your shoulders straight. Defending what you believe to be right is a big step, even if it is just a LiveJournal post on the internet, or is it? You took the time to set down and keep a journal and actually comment on your feelings without worrying what other people think. You matter, your opinions matter, your life matters. You are somewhere I am so scared to be right now, therefor I look up to you. You are very brave in my eyes. I would like to read more on your posts. Please post again soon. Goodnight.

Hang in there...

I know it can be very difficult to deal with people sometimes. Right now my evil word of the day is: Gossip. In this training I am going through, people really like to talk about what other people are doing with themselves. For example, if a female and a male find that they get along well and want to hang out (as friends) that some how means that they are a couple and are screwing around in every dark shadow. And not just this. Everything that happens to someone gets run through the rumor mill and comes out looking like a chewed up bit of food that has been run through our stomach acids a couple times. And so I try to ignore this and live my life without leting this affect me, but it hasn't worked, so I get to adjust what I let people know about me and hopefully, one day, I will find the people that do not care about what I do and can talk about themselves and their thoughts and concerns instead of what I am doing.

Just remember the good things in life.

best thoughts and wishes,
Amber
