Well, it's that time of the year again.

My hair literally froze solid this morning. I touched it, and I felt curls that were encased in ice, completely solid, no give at all. I didn't actually hear crunching, the way I would if I stepped on ice in a puddle, but the feeling was kind of similar. Except that this is MY HAIR we are talking about here. It's a strange feeling. Those of us who have a beard, experience this effect in a more pronounced form. It essentially turns into one big icicle.

Huh. I've always thought that a beard would be more likely to protect one's face when it's cold, not less. I guess we should all just stay inside and wait for the summer to come. ;)

Well, what really spoils things here is the silly habit to breathe (at least occasionally). The result is very noticeable on one's beard. But then you may well have a point - once it all turns into an icy carapace, it sort of protects your face.

It is not as scary as it might sound...

What would you do, if you didn't have me to show you how (not) to behave in cold weather? :P

I never went out without a hat in Germany in winter, and I always dry my hair unless I've been swimming. You lose a lot of heat out through your head. And eep, you might break your hair!

I haven't even checked out the statistics thing. I suppose I should. I'm not sure if it records people who read my posts on their flist, or direct hits.

Yes, but if you lose so much heat out through your head, then shouldn't that heat at least keep your hair from freezing? Where exactly does that heat go, if not to raise the temperature of the air around your head?

I bet you never realized that breaking your hair could be a real danger. ;)

I've been wondering the same thing myself. I think there is a way to see the overall statistics for the flist views and direct hits together, or only direct hits separately. I think the "My Guests" feature is for direct views only, though.

I didn't even know LJ had a statistics feature!

I never dry my hair before going out either so I also end up with frozen icicles sticking out. Today, I wore a hat though, but I still ended up with haircicles. ;)

*hugs you*

*hugs you back* HI! How are you doing? It's been too long!

I didn't even know LJ had a statistics feature!

It's a completely new feature, for paid users only, unfortunately. They've been promising it for a while now, but it's only become active a few days ago. One of the options it has is "My Guests", which is basically a list of all LJ users who view your LJ while logged in. (I am unclear on whether it counts views on the flist, or only people viewing your LJ, but either way, it's an interesting feature.) There is a way to opt out of being listed if you go here and change yours settings, in which case you would show up as an invisible guest, but you would also be unable to use this feature yourself ( ... )

Hee! Your icon is very appropriate for this post! :D

And yeah, it really has been that kind of day. The only thing one can really do is to curl up under a blanket with a cup of hot cocoa. *g*
