A call for Stargate SG1 fanfic recs

I keep wanting to post something here, and then not posting anything, because I don't know what to write! It's really difficult to post, after such a long time away, isn't it. But this time, I actually have a request for my flist, so maybe that will make it easier to actually post, this time. (As opposed to all the other times when I wrote ( Read more... )

Hmm. A few more suggestions:

I think troyswann's stuff is great. Noise, maybe? Daniel/OC, though not explicit at all, and not too context-heavy, if you know what I mean.

nandamai is my favorite S/J writer, but she's got some gen in there too: Wavelength is a fun first-contact story; Anything is a Reckoning/Threads tag.

destina is pretty much all slash, all the time. I like Ciphers a lot: A J/D story all about subtext. Non-explicit.

Augh, there are more, but I'll leave it there. Oh, wait, no: The Midas Syndrome, by rheanna27, is a story I often recommend to newbies. Gen, first-season.

Oh, these are awesome! Thank you so much! I've heard of these authors, of course, but I hadn't read these particular stories. I'll add them to my list of recommendations. :)

Oh, and I was particularly tickled to see A Heavenward Striving on this list, since my feelings about it were a little mixed. I went back and read it after seeing it here, and I think I like it better now than I did when I wrote it...

Thanks for the recs of my stuff! I am very proud of those stories; they were a lot of fun to write.

I will put forth this story which is kind of a guilty pleasure of mine:
The Soul Senses by Carrie, which is gen and a bit whump and hurt/comforty and teamy goodness, and something that wouldn't be able to be written well for the screen, I think, but that explores character strengths and weaknesses and interactions as well as being a cool adventure story.

Oh, and another rec: Ghosts in the Machine by Surrealphantast (surreallis) which was written for me and is epic and awesome and totally something they couldn't do on the show just for budgetary reasons. But I love it because it takes SG-1 out of the trappings of the Stargate universe: Goa'uld, gods, small-scale societies, etc. and puts them instead into something alien and isolating and massively scaled.

Anyway, I will also say that you have a few on your list already of recs, but as far as team recs and creativity goes, you can just point them straight to the sg1teamficathon community. They are all older stories from both 2005 and 2007; but they are really all fantastic.

Oooh! I think that last story is the one I've been looking for that I felt was still missing from this list. I remembered that there was an awesome story that I read that really showcased what you can do with fanfic to show truly alien cultures that the show itself just couldn't do, but I couldn't remember where I'd read it. And I think this was the story I was thinking of.

Yay! Thank you so much! I'll add it to the list. :)

And I have a feeling that team fic is exactly what my friend would be looking for, so I'll send her to that community as well. Thanks!

Now I've just got to write up the recs and send them to my friend. Explaining fandom to a fandom newbie is harder than I thought. *g*
