[Edward's been feeling rather disgruntled and downcast lately - moreso than usual, at that - so he's finally decided to take Sokka up on his offer to visit and, hopefully, catch Katara's evening Waterbending session to see if it cheers him up some. He's also bringing a little present for his fellow smithy worker, so hopefully he's home ( Read more... )

[Well, if he comes around after dinner the chances are very good that he is going to find her doing her daily practice session. Since it's the second day of a heat wave, Katara's practice has her coating her arms in water and working through basic forms using that water as her bending source.

She's not far from the house, in a clearing between it and the barracks.]

[Edward spots her as he passes by, stopping to sort of gawk at what she's doing with water. He's never seen anything like that, and it's certainly nothing like the glyph magic he's used to.

Please excuse his staring.]

[For her to excuse it, she would have to first notice, and despite the many times this has happened to her, Katara's focus is still on her practice, on her breathing, on the minutia of her movements - and currently it's on sending a stream of water towards a target.

The water turns to ice spikes mid-flight and pierces the target in an... almost perfect circle around its center.]

[FFFFFF THAT'S SERIOUSLY AWESOME. He's not a magic user himself, and he's always found the practice kind of slow in comparison, but even for him, it was impossible to deny the artistry of that.

He'd have to be an idiot to interrupt it, too, so he'll stand quietly by the wall until she finishes.]

[Sokka is not in fact home at this hour, but instead at the barracks already, practicing his technique. He did okay against Xion, but he feels like he could have done so much better. So he's pushing himself pretty hard lately, forgoing all his usual silly projects he's accumulated over time.]

[Assuming Edward got a nice bending demonstration and directions on where to find Sokka, he'll be heading to the barracks himself to try and find him. He'd rather not have to cart this mail all over the place, after all.

He stops at the entrance to watch Sokka's technique at first, admiring his speed. ...And mostly the sword. It's pretty.]

[It must run in the family, because Sokka doesn't notice Ed while he's in there practicing. Well, not at first, anyway. He's mostly working on the techniques he learned from Piandao, because he gets to try other styles in the morning with his different trainers. Sure, it's not as flashy as Katara what a show off, but it's kinda elegant. For Sokka anyway. He's still working on that whole bit where he has a manservant who throws the sheath at him, which Sokka will then catch with his sword. While blinded.

If only he had a manservant.]

[Well. He's a manservant, he's just not your manservant :| But Edward waits a bit, then knocks on the wall by the door to get Sokka's attention between... whatever moves he's doing.

...What is he doing over there?]

[Man, everyone and their mom is invading the barracks lately. Not that Arumat completely objects; there's always the chance of him finding new sparring partners, something he's not about to turn down given how quiet it's been lately.

He recognizes this man, though: Edward, the one who was looking for people knowledgeable in alchemy. That makes this even more interesting. He'll just be standing off to the side watching you like a creeper to get a feel for your skills, Ed.]

[It's not your barracks, get out 8| Edward glances over when he sees Arumat watching - he recognizes the guy too, and a friend of Faize's is reasonably trustworthy, he supposes - but does nothing for the moment, aside from continuing his exercises. He's somewhat slow with the blade, due to the size of it, but otherwise he wields it effectively and seemingly effortlessly.]

[Arumat notes that slowness as he analyzes the man's fighting technique. That's something he could use to his advantage should they ever end up sparring-- he may not be the fastest in the world either, but that little teleportation ability of his more than makes up for that. That's a rather impressive-sized blade for a human to wield as well...]

Does that type of sword have a name?

[He's mostly familiar with Eldarian sabers and the smaller swords that Edge uses.]

[Edward pauses pre-slash, balancing the sword up by his shoulder as he responds.] They're called greatswords where I'm from. This one is Dullahan.
