[Edward's been feeling rather disgruntled and downcast lately - moreso than usual, at that - so he's finally decided to take Sokka up on his offer to visit and, hopefully, catch Katara's evening Waterbending session to see if it cheers him up some. He's also bringing a little present for his fellow smithy worker, so hopefully he's home ( Read more... )

[Well, if he comes around after dinner the chances are very good that he is going to find her doing her daily practice session. Since it's the second day of a heat wave, Katara's practice has her coating her arms in water and working through basic forms using that water as her bending source.

She's not far from the house, in a clearing between it and the barracks.]

[Edward spots her as he passes by, stopping to sort of gawk at what she's doing with water. He's never seen anything like that, and it's certainly nothing like the glyph magic he's used to.

Please excuse his staring.]

[For her to excuse it, she would have to first notice, and despite the many times this has happened to her, Katara's focus is still on her practice, on her breathing, on the minutia of her movements - and currently it's on sending a stream of water towards a target.

The water turns to ice spikes mid-flight and pierces the target in an... almost perfect circle around its center.]

[FFFFFF THAT'S SERIOUSLY AWESOME. He's not a magic user himself, and he's always found the practice kind of slow in comparison, but even for him, it was impossible to deny the artistry of that.

He'd have to be an idiot to interrupt it, too, so he'll stand quietly by the wall until she finishes.]

[She makes a pulling motion, and the ice spikes leave the tree and change back to water as they flow back to coat her arm. She's starting to get that prickling feeling... and she glances around until she spots her watcher.

...She vaguely recognizes you, and the way you're watching doesn't indicate a threat so - she relaxes her stance.]

Hello! I'm Katara. And you are... [watching me...]

[Oh good, she noticed. Stepping away from the wall, Edward ducks his head in a slight bow in greeting.]

I'm Edward- I work at the smithy with your brother. I'm sorry if I startled you at all.

Oh! It's nice to meet you, Edward. [And she smiles but, assuming that he's looking for Sokka and that she'll be able to get back to practicing soon, doesn't let go of the water coating her arms.]

If you were looking for Sokka, I think he headed towards the barracks after dinner.

[...W-well. Without Sokka around, he feels a bit embarrassed about asking, but...]

I was looking for him, but... would it bother you if I watched a little longer? He told me about your abilities, but it's more impressive to see firsthand.

Sokka told you about my abilities?

[That's... odd.

And - aww! That's a very strange look to see on a guy who's nearly towering over her.]

[Don't take his size too seriously, Katara, he's secretly a puppy. Especially around younger girls.]

I questioned him about his world, and couldn't help but ask about the elements of the nations he mentioned. It's very similar to where I'm from, so I wanted to see it for myself.

[Oooh, Sokka responded to a question. Well, that makes more sense. But now they've come to one of her more favorite topics of conversations - the similarity and differences between worlds.]

Really? How is it similar?

[She might find this one familiar, particularly since she chatted with Sigmund about it not too long ago.]

My world had five nations, not four, and it was the country linked to water that was lost. But we also have air, fire, and earth. The fifth element is aether.

...Aether?

[She's had a rather long conversation with a certain someone about this.] Are you from Sigmund's world?

[Oh hey, if she's talked to Sigmund he doesn't have to explain everything!]

I am; Lord Sigmund is my master and comrade.

[...Lord Sigmund? He didn't explain that. Although that would explain his... everything.]

I didn't know he had other people from his world here!

[No one can say he's a humble man, but he doesn't exactly flaunt his title. He has Edward to do that for him, after all.]

There are three of us right now that I'm sure of; Lord Sigmund, myself, and his mother. There was a fourth, an enemy of ours, but I haven't seen him for a long time, so with luck he's left this place.
