So either he'd underestimated his ability at putting cars back together -- he'd spent a lot of time in his last job taking them apart -- or he'd overestimated the amount of time it'd take to get the old junker working again. He'd expected it to take him until July, anyway ( Read more... )

Dee answered the door, laptop balanced on one arm. She'd been looking for news articles on the Iran thing, deeming that to be the most interesting thing going on right now and not likely to clear up by the time she got to school. Plus, it had been her mother's homeland, once upon a time. Sort of.

It was kind of interesting getting Ishtar's perspective on the whole thing.

"Marek..." she hadn't expected him. She saved her work, closed the laptop and tucked it under her arm, reaching out to hug him tight. She'd missed him, more than she'd expected considering it wasn't like he'd gone anywhere. She just hadn't seen much of him lately.

Marek smiled and slipped an arm around her in return. "It's summer, Dee, the homework can wait, you know."

Not that he's really in any position to talk about homework.

"You'd think that, but apparently I have to have this paper done by the time I land on campus," she told him.

But she snuggled into him anyway, homework forgotten in favor of cuddling with her boyfriend and stretching up to kiss him gently.

Okay, how does this conversation go, anyway? Oh by the way, I only came by to tell you goodbye? Yeah, not well.

That unease and his impending departure doesn't stop him from kissing her, but it does make it rather obvious he's tense about the whole situation.
