My roommate seems to have fallen asleep watching MTV's coverage of the Grammys. Like the nerd I am, I am busy scowling at the screen while drowning out the audio with Devo. MTV's coverage is even more deadening than the ceremony itself; they seem to be doing the "red carpet" thing, with assorted VJs (or their evolutionary descendents) cornering

I didn't even know that the Grammies were tonight, and while I'm curious enough to look up the winners, I don't particularly care. Every few years somebody with real talent gets nominated, but they're few and far between. (Recent artists I can think of: Lauryn Hill; Santana--except that the album he got nominated for kinda sucked, therefore sorta nullifying this one; Alicia Keys--I think she's talented, anyway; and, well, Christina Aguiliera (sp?) has a wonderful voice, but from what I've heard sings mostly mundane stuff. Oh, and if Justin Timberlake got nominated for that thing he did on his own. That was good. This set of parentheses has made you lose all respect for me.)
Also, that song you did on the autoharp at the open mic blew me away. You also made one of my friends swoon. Apparently, she can't resist a boy with a harp.

The roomie has switched to actual coverage. U2 is playing. I have switched my headphones to Negativland's Negativland's U2 single. Suddenly, it's all worth it.

Anyway, as good as Loverock is, it kinda disappoints me in that it's not as crushingly awesome as Jet Generation or Planet of the Wolves. I find it rocked harder than UFO Romantics in most spots, though.

And definitely check out Real Gone. Tom Waits is one of the few cases where I like his newer stuff more than the stuff he did back in the day; as great as his old beat songs are, I love his newer, experimental stuff. (He's also got a track on the aforementioned Discovered Covered, by the by)
