In which the author steadfastly ignores the obvious innuendo

Okay... I acknowledge that I have a tendency to write hyperventilating posts about esoteric subjects that mean little to all but one or two people who read this journal. This entry, however, is a little different. It is entirely possible (maybe even probable) that this will mean nothing to anybody reading this.

That said... MONSTERS IN MY POCKET Read more... )

Yes! As I recall, that was one of the things that really made not having an NES suck for 7-year-old Oscar. It was subsequently the first game I downloaded for my emulator.

The best series of MIMP figures was one I never had any of... the second series, where they were all neon and there were a ton of amazing, bizarre designs. I lost a lot of my original ones, but I have a huge poster detailing the entire first series. Or I did. I might have gone on eBay. Who knows these days? Those are some toys I'd keep, though.

I did have a bunch of the later series with the larger figures and more detailed sculpts and some coloration, I recall the Mad Gasser of Mattoon figure in particular, but I don't think I had it. The Poltergeist one was a fantastic design. They were slightly less pocket sized, though.

I remember some not-at-all pocket sized figures they sold in blister packs, too, that made sounds. Always on discount at KB Toys. Odd.

This is a childhood memory that I am not at all surprised that we share.

Yeah-- Somehow I knew that, if anyone was going to respond to this, it'd be you.

I somehow wound up with a few series two guys, which is odd, because I'm pretty positive I never actually came across a pack. I had the gargoyle, an Egyptian god with a crocodile head, and a Celtic fellow with a deer skull on his head. In fact, I'm pretty sure I still have all of them somewhere-- I'm even the proud owner of the Monster Mountain display thing, which remains on the wall of my house to this day.

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one for whom "Mad Gasser of Mattoon" is a completely recognizable phrase. He's in the new series too, by the by.

speaking of monsters, have you heard any Man Man yet? I think you'd really dig it. Michelle can hook you up, no doubt.
