Today I am chillin' and veggin' because Town Meeting is done! Sixteen hours (give or take a couple of hours), from setting up the gym and voting area early in the morning until counting write-in votes and calling all the local TV and Newspapers with results. With all the running and answering questions Town Clerks do that day, by the end we really ( Read more... )

A quilt of the London landscape sounds like it would be wonderful. What is the painting you plan to use? Not that I think I would know it as I'm artistically challenged, but I am curious. Good luck with that anyway.

We stayed in a small ski lodge in NY state in '96 and had maple syrup there too. *g* I imagine the whole of that region - New England and NY state - would be affected by the lack of snow and thus no skiing? It's a shame. The weather is so odd these days. We've had more snow than we would normally expect for the SW of England but not the terrible winter that was predicted.

I really wanted to do something related to the theatres of London (as I'm a big fan of British actors and actresses, my favorite being Alan Rickman of course) so I searched and found this website.
www.andreas-praefcke.de/carthalia/
It has quite a lot of detail and I'm not sure I'll be that detailed in the quilt. I guess I won't know until I get into it. It says on the website that people can order posters of the painting and I want to do that so I have a bigger picture to look at. I printed the picture from the website but it is quite small.

The weather has been weird all over the place and it's a bit scary. I talked with a woman today from Germany and she said their winter weather has been strange as well.

Lazy, Laurie? You have NO idea! :) *yawn* I hate Sundays. I can`t get no work done, I can`t sleep, although I`m exhausted, I can`t eat because I`m much to lazy to cook on Sundays (well perhaps except pancakes) Basically I`m a couch potato ( ... )

I hope you had those pancakes Winky!

My favorite theatre would have to be the Royal Albert Hall, probably because it was one of the first things I saw in London when Snapesoul took me for a walk around.

Actually, the dragonflies were easy, but the hedgehogs can really get away from you if you're not careful! LOL

What a cool idea! It sounds like a very complicated project, too. I admire people with handcraft-talent like yours. I always go looking for quilts in antique stores-- I love looking at them. There's a wonderful tradition and history behind quilting-- it's kind of like writing, in that it preserves individual women's voices, the things they see, etc. And I think you have some idea of how gung-ho I am about that idea! :) Yay for folk art!

I also want to write to the artist, asking him for his permission to use his painting to make the quilt. Isn't that something you have to do, if you are going to make some kind of copy of an artists painting?

I don't think you're in danger of copyright violation if you're making one quilt only, and you don't intend to sell it-- and you said that you'd be doing a much simpler version based on the painting, rather than copying it exactly. I'd say that as long as you credit the original artist and painting, somehow, you're fine. But it can't hurt to ask, and the artist might appreciate hearing ( ... )

If you ever get the chance Moro, go to a quilt show. It's is truly amazing looking at all the quilts. They are such amazing forms of artwork that I've really grown to appreciate and love. I also love talking to quilters, listening to them explain their techniques and how (and where) they got their inspirations.

Thanks for the copyright info!

Laurie,

Your job sounds so interesting and challenging!

I'm sure everyone would love to see some photographs of some of your quilts, if you ever have a chance. I know I would!

Well, I've only actually completed one quilt. I have a couple of others in various stages of completion and ideas for a couple more. I hope to post a picture of the one I've finished soon!
