Hey, we're finally drying out in good ole Vermont. This is our second day of sunshine (after almost 3 weeks of rain) and you can hear lawn mowers and trimmers whirling away at almost every house on the street. Of course by now some of us have hay to mow. LOL The smell of fresh cut grass is everywhere and is mingled with the sweet smell of lilac, ( Read more... )

Mmm, the smell of fresh cut grass...
Hell for those suffering from hay fever, I suppose but so good to everybody else.
What is celebrated on Memorial Day ?

Memorial Day is when everyone remembers those who are no longer with us. We usually visit all the cemeteries where are loved ones are buried and plant flowers. There are also parades in honor of fallen soldiers.

Thank you for the clarification.
The only equivalent I can think of in France is Toussaint (All Saints) on 1st November. Given the usual weather conditions, the day is quite melancholy.
No lilac for us, chrisanthemums and heather are used...
Fallen soldiers are remembered on the day celebrating the end of the war (which is a national holiday too) and, more symbolically on the 14th July.

Oh how I wish I was in Vermont! It's done nothing but rain here. Can't get to my allotment. Can't go camping. Most flowers are about 2 weeks behind. It's cr*p! And you really want to live here??
Remembrance Day for us is Nov 11 (but I think I've covered that before...)

It sounds just like Vermont as far as weather but you're a bit warmer. We have rain again today, yuck!
