Veronica do you post on ff.net? I've noticed some of the good TW writers who are left seem to be posting there more than LJ. I don't have an account there and back in the day wouldn't even check it out unless something was recced, but now I check it all the time as it's more active than LJ. I think people will read your story. I love Mac, so I'll just go ahead and love it

I guess my problem is that I'm afraid I've become irrelevant, either by the method I use to participate in fandom - writing - or by the lack of interest in the fandom I want to participate in - TW, H50. And for me it isn't so much about feedback, it's about feeling part of something, that sense of community when a fandom is active and talking and sharing. I know there are fandom communities like that, but we love what we love, right? There are many active, even mega fandoms that I'll never join, they just don't interest me. What do you do when fandom leaves you and you're not ready

It's extraordinary though how it died after MD, before MD there were the fix it's and the people who defended CoE and got very excited about the prospect of CoE. I think what happened was that those people just left, because MD was, well, awful. I've noticed maybe two or three fans who are writing MD characters. Then people who I think had somehow been hanging on, just moved on. Maybe it was the end of hope that things might be redeemed.
CoE was the death, but I think many fans hung on in hope, and then that was gone. I agree with you about being sad, I still feel upset about it, and in denial! I mean not actively, but it can be triggered. When I was watching the JB special and they talked about how great it was that Capt Jack fancied men, they showed some bits of TW and some bits of DW, but the TW was just him and Gwen, and the bit to illustrate his fancying men was the scene with Russell Tovey in DW. Well I just thought "Oi that's not fair", felt all offended on behalf of Ianto! Then reminded myself I need to get over it!
JB said on Twitter that the programme with Fern Brittain was filmed about six or seven months ago, so before he know about Arrow - which he wasn't asked to do until August. Not seen the programme yet, but assume they used a point of reference that he is best known for - which I always find a bit strange as I, and many more were fans of his singing and West End appearances long before Doctor Who.
On an aside, one of my closest friends has no idea who John Barrowman is; she never sees, or is interested in the kind of work he does!
You are a love and I appreciate the encouragement! It's going to take some work - Joe, Lori - out! Mama McG, Cath - in! But it's always Steve and Danny and Steve/Danny - if you want to read that, you bet I'll post it ;).
I am a die-hard Steve and Danny fan, as well as a "McDanno" fan. Mama McG is one scary, but intriguing, character, and I love Christine Lahti. I also love Cath.
So bring it on! I'm not a writer of fanfic, nor do I have the skill to effortlessly post picspams, but I enjoy being on the receiving end of these things! And sadly there are far too few of them these days, compared to S1.
Yeah, I like Cath, too - I guess as long as they keep it a friends with benefits thing, I won't be too worried. Lenkov has a way of messing up good things, I'm sorry to say.
And you know, reading fanfic and enjoying tumblr equals participation in fandom as far as I'm concerned - I love that there are so many ways to share the love. I'm so glad to know you'll read H5O, because I'm certainly not done with them. And hopefully, with some of the wonderful things they've done lately, more people will get on the McDanno Camaro of luv ;).
Wow. You have brought up some things that I have been trying not to think about, like the slow, sad decline of TW fandom. My first real foray into TW was, sadly, COE. Then I went back and watched series 1 and 2 and then I discovered fanfic!!! I had NO idea that this whole world existed but it fed my need for more TW, and in particular Jack/Ianto. There has not been a day gone by since then that I haven't read TW fanfic. It's where I escape to at the end of a stressful day at work where everything is all too real! I thought that by now the novelty would have worn off, and quite frankly i need to be reading other stuff, but it hasn't and it distresses me to no end that the fandom is dying more quickly than I am ready for. However, there are still a few good writers out there writing some great stuff, you included, and I, for one, am very grateful that you are. And I have a special love of AUs these days as I do get weary of the same storylines over and over and MD was a huge disappointment so no new material there. My interest is

Oh, I won't abandon Torchwood Paranormal, no worries about that. As slow as it's been, as long as it's taken, it's still just fun for me to write. At this point, it's not even fanfiction anymore, it's more like a serialized novel

Wow! Big dittos to tartan_tarte's comments above. I'm of the same mind and situation. I got into the TW fandom late (post COE) and am still a very avid reader. (I, too, squeee whenever a new TP is posted!) I also love the Mac AU. But I can understand your wondering about people commenting. I try to leave comments, particularly when I find a story I especially like, but I'm also finding that I just don't have the time anymore to leave all kinds of comments. Often I just read and run. I think at the time I'll go back later and leave a comment, but then I seldom do. But although RL keeps me very busy, I rely on fanfiction (TW mostly) as my escape and relaxation at the end of day. So I definitely hope you will keep writing and posting because I can guarantee I'll keep reading!
It is really hard to leave comments, I agree, and there should never be a situation where anyone feels obliged to comment on a story they've enjoyed. Posting a story should be a way of sharing the love, and feedback or comments are just a way for people to participate in that love with the author - at least in a perfect world. That's what I miss, the give and take of writer and reader, that feeling of having found common ground.
But if you'll keep on reading, I'll keep on writing - that's the perfect combination ;). And thank you for reading TP, you've been so lovely and faithful about that and I want you to know I really do appreciate it!

Would be nice if they knew something we don't...
