Jack's (your) idea makes so much sense it's a wonder it's not canon! He knows he can transfer life energy, he said he wasn't ready to give up on Owen and that's why he used the Glove--so why NOT this?

So curious as to where this goes next. :)

Yes, it could have been an alternative solution to the problem and I think a lot of Torchwood fans would have been delighted to see Jack and Owen share a kiss (*waves her hand in the air*) ^^ Although, giving and getting life energy won't be that easy here, you'll see...
