I totally get what you're saying. I think I guessed what band you're talking about and I love that band, too. However, I'm the opposite of a lot of people and don't like much of their old stuff (the songs previous to the last two albums) and love the last album and the current album. I am a lyrics person and always listen to the lyrics of songs and happen to think some of the lyrics of the songs of the past album and this album are genius. The lead singer is a very inspired writer. But that's just my opinion, I'm not knocking yours. We all have one. :)
Are we talking about All Time Low? I actually agree with you that the vocalist is an inspired writer, his lyrics are really great (even though he's my least favourite member, I still love his lyrics). But mind you, I like SOME of the songs in Dirty Work as well such as the lyrics in A Daydream Away. But I guess I've been a fan for so long that I was used to listening to their old songs and I was shocked that their new ones are very different from the old songs, which in my opinion are the best. Such as, Break Out Break Out or We Say Summer and Jasey Rae and The Girl's A Straight Up Hustler and Stay Awake and This is How We Do. But of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder even when we're talking about the beauty of song lyrics. Just like what Ben Franklin said, "Beauty, like supreme dominion Is but supported by opinion" :D
Yes, I was talking about All Time Low, I just didn't know if you wanted me to mention them. I haven't been a fan of theirs since the beginning, however, I'm not a huge pop-punk fan so that genre doesn't appeal that much to me. You're right, their last two albums have been a departure from their old albums--they're more emo pop now, but as you may have guessed, I like that type of music. :) I have almost all of their songs and only like a handful from The Party Scene, Put Up or Shut Up, So Wrong, It's Right and none from Three Words To Remember When Dealing With The End. I love virtually almost every song from Nothing Personal and Dirty Work, including the bonus tracks. I haven't paid too much attention to the lyrics of the songs I don't care for on their old albums so you may be right about the lyrics being better. Alex is my favorite band member, but you said he's not yours. Who is? My friend likes Jack. All the guys seem pretty cool. Nice quote by Benjamin Franklin. I like our discussions. I don't know a lot of ATL fans
( ... )
I like rian most... I don't know, I have a weak spot for drummers and grammar nazis, he once said in a video that he doesn't like people who say "good" when they're supposed to say "well" (e.g. You played good tonight!). I know he's dating cassadee but I don't mind, I still like him. :))
hi. this comment is so late but the topic is relatively still fresh so i'm still gonna pitch this one in.
you're right about the whole deal. the so-called artists of today's music industry are all just about fame and money, if i do say so myself, and no longer all about music as a craft. it's sickening. oh well.
about ATL, the only song of theirs that i probably ever liked is Painting Flowers. as for the lyrics, it's not really bordering anywhere near mainstream/superficial or altogether hifaluting. it's in the middle. and i like it 'cause it's rightly lyrical in terms of the fact that it was included in the soundtrack of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. :)
Almost Alice is on top of my list of favorite all time low songs. What I was referring to in the essay was their new album, Dirty Work. Although after a while, the songs kind of grows on you and it makes you realize that it's not that bad but it's not their best either. Definitely not part the aforementioned list. :)
