The best part is that now alot of dvd players have built in divx compatibilty so the lay man that doesnt have all the tech mombo jumbo can just pop the dvd in...

It's actually fairly easy to do, it just takes time to accomplish it.
If you just want to archive the TiVo shows in DVD format, you can use Roxio's MyDVD to burn the discs.
If you want to archive in DivX format, there are a few ways to accomplish it. Here's what I do:
You'll need 4 pieces of software to do this:
TiVo Desktop for Windows (Mac version doesn't support downloading yet)
DirectShow Dump (to strip off TiVo's DRM, google it)
Nero 7 Ultra (for the video editing)
DivX Converter with MPG add on
The first thing you'll need to do is download the file from your TiVo using TiVo Desktop. Make sure you have your Media Access Key set, otherwise you won't be able to edit the file.
Then use DirectShow Dump to strip the file's Digital Rights Management wrapper and save as an MPG file. (follow the instructions included with the program. it's very easy).
Use Nero Vision to edit the the file (take out commercials, apply effects, etc). Follow Nero's instructions on how to edit. Save it as a 720 x 480 Stereo MPEG-2.
