Why is it, that when I assure people I'm not going anywhere, they leave me?

I'm pretty sure it's because everyone ignores their own support system. It's SUCH a given that we take it for granted, then hideously use it one-sided-ly until such a time as it breaks down or we find newer ones to replace them.
We're all a little gross like that.
