Travis had a rough time when I left and ended up in the emergency room after passing out from a "gushing" nosebleed, one of three in as many days. He says he passed out because he saw his (and so much) blood; his new landlord/roommate Craig (gushing is his word) was scared to death. However, Travis survived and had the tight bands removed today

I am one of Travis' friends from SIGGRAPH. I had been following up, hearing about his father through here. What is this surgery he has had? It was mentioned here that his upper and lower jaw were broken and reset, why? Was there some condition he had, or was he in an accident? I tried to skim over a lot of older posts, but couldn't find anything about it.

Hey, this is Travis. I had surgery as part of my orthodontia "program". My mom tends to exaturate a bit. They didn't exactly "break" my jaw, but they did cut it and move it around.

Basically, my jaw had been misformed where my upper jaw wasn't as far foward as it should have been and my lower jaw was misalligned. This lead to a larger underbite.

Anyhow, recovery is going well. I'm able to eat some actual food now instead of being on a liquid diet. Pasta and stuffing taste so good after two weeks of Ensure diet shakes and Jambe juice.

Still a bit swollen and the muscles in my jaw are tight, but other than that things are getting back to normal.

Anyhow, I'm in class so i'm gunna end it there...
