Darrell was released from the rehab center today. We had to do some minor adjustments to the apartment but it looks like it will be fine. Chloe is scared to death of the wheelchair but remembers Darrell's lap and hops up when he is on the couch ( Read more... )

We met with the case worker this afternoon. Darrell will be released on Saturday but it will be in a wheelchair and not a walker. His leg is not strong enough for a walker and he "forgets" the right side of his body. He will need to be supervised when he bathes and when he moves from the wheelchair to the bed - I won't have to stand over him but ( Read more... )

Darrell is showing steady improvement. When I saw him tonight he used his walker to get to the bathroom and is doing very well - slow but sure. He suggested to his regular doctor that they work more on the physical side of rehab than the speech side and his doctor agreed. He hopes that will begin on Monday. Sorry I didn't post yesterday. We've decided that it's better if I see him every other day. He continues to improve by leaps and bounds. The feeling is continuing to return in his arm and leg. He is able to "lock" his bad leg now and is using the walker with assistance to get back and forth to the restroom. I met the doctor this evening and he ( Read more... )

Darrell's doctor stopped him in the hallway this afternoon and briefly told him that all signs are very positive. He will tell Darrell tomorrow the results of the meeting today between the doctor, the case worker and the therapists. The doctor mentioned constraint therapy which I've read about - he thinks it would be good for Darrell. That's ( Read more... )

Sunday is a quiet day at the rehab center and Super Bowl Sunday is even quieter. Darrell had two sessions today and seemed rested when I saw him. The highlight of the day was the phone call from the folks at Dean Headquarters - they miss him and want and need him back. Darrell had a better day today. He got some sleep with the help of a sleeping pill and had good therapy sessions. He is able to flex his foot which is a breakthrough and has more movement in his arm. Tomorrow is a fairly quiet day - two sessions - mostly a day of rest ( Read more... )

Darrell has a new roommate who is hooked up to machines that kept him up most of the night. So he was very grumpy and tired this evening. He (of course) wants his arm and leg to be better NOW and was discouraged with his progress today.

Tomorrow will be a better day.
