[Jael has gone off on her own and is once again out of the firelight and near the trees. She's listening to the activity within the campsite itself, and hears the sudden yelling coming from main part of the site. She takes a couple steps towards the camp, trying to hear if anyone is injured, so she doesn't hear the Nandi bear until it's almost too late.

Jael turns just enough that the first bite comes down on her shoulder instead of her neck. Almost instantly Jael goes limp from shock, before finally struggling, kicking her feet against the ground in an attempt to get enough traction to free herself.]

[Jin isn't a stalker, so when Jael wanted to go off by herself, he let her. She was an adult and she could take care of herself. Regardless of his paranoia, he figured he should at least try to enjoy himself. So he mingled around the firepit and he looked questioningly at the marshmallows.

He once guided the soul of a guy who'd chocked to death on a marshmallow. Fun fact.

It wasn't until people came out of the forest yelling that he became alarmed. And after quickly scanning the area to make sure no one else was in any imminent peril he went looking for Jael, just to make sure she was alright.

She wasn't.

Luckily by that point he was armed. Someone had left weapons laying around by the tents. (Originally he thought that was a horrible idea, but it turned out to be a good idea after all).

So, sword in hand, he rammed the strange bear-looking thing, if only to knock it away from Jael and (hopefully) injure it so it couldn't attack again.]

[The Nandi bear lets go and roars in pain, snapping its teeth at Jin to drive him away.

Jael drops to the ground and just lays there while trying to gather her wits together enough to move. As soon as she can, Jael pushes herself up into a sitting position and starts pushing herself backwards in an attempt to put some distance between them.]

[It had been some time since Jin had actually used a sword, let alone drive off a beast. You could say he was rusty. But as far as he could tell the Nandi bear had no magical properties and was running on pure, wild animalistic instinct, and he could deal with that.

He acted quickly, jabbing at the bear with his sword in order to kill it quickly, but he underestimated and it swiped him in the side instead, sending him sprawling. Jin scrabbled back to his feet quickly and grabbed at his sword, hoping it'd still go after him and not turn back to Jael.]

[Well, it does go after Jin again, but this time it swipes at Jin with a paw. It's pissed that Jin is keeping it from its prey and is trying to do another to knock him back long enough to at least finish Jael off.

Jael is trying to get her legs under her enough to stand up and run, but they just aren't cooperating.]

[Thank goodness it's going after him again. Jin glances at Jael for a brief moment, hoping she manages to get up and run. But for now, the bear.

He avoids the bears attack this time, since the last thing he wants is to receive injury. And right now the best course of action Jin can think of is leading the bear away from Jael and the campsite. So that's what he does. He runs, making sure the bear is following so he can turn around and take it down a safe distance away.

And when Jin's sure he's far enough, he turns around sharply to strike the bear down and--

...the bear is gone.

The bear stopped following him.

Alarmed, and silently cursing himself, Jin runs back in the other direction, hoping he gets there quickly enough.]

[Jael has only just managed to get to her feet when Jin starts to run. She turns and heads towards the camp, wobbling badly because of the pain and blood loss.

With her back to the forest, she didn't see the bear stop chasing Jin and turn back around to chase her. She hears the heavy footfalls speeding up and coming closer, but she doesn't stop. An adrenaline rush gave her the strength to break into a run, but before she can get close to anyone else to warn them, the Nandi bear catches up to her and claws her in the back.

Jael drops and instantly the Nandi bear clamps down on her head.

All Jael hears is a loud crunching noise before everything goes dark.]

[Jin ran as fast as was physically possible for him to run. But even with how fast he could run, he was still too late.

If Jin was capable, he would have screamed in rage. But all he could do was rip the bear away from Jael's body and ram it with his sword. This bear was done for. He would not let it slip away. So he killed it.

And after he was sure it was dead he was at Jael's body in a split second.

But he was much, much, much too late. He'd screwed up. He hadn't done his job. He had failed. And now Jael was dead because he hadn't acted quick enough.

So he stuck his sword into the ground and bowed his head.

Jin didn't move form the spot for a long time.]
