The inhabitants of the Temple were all assembled in the Dining Hall. It was a large room with high ceilings, warmed by the fire in the fireplace opposite the main entrance and several smaller braziers scattered between the tables. The three large tables, normally set side by side, had been pushed against the walls to clear a space at the center of

"Ain't seen nothin' like you before."
Lucas is still smiling. She's probably the most interesting thing he's seen in weeks.

Was he a hawk-brother? She had minor encounters with they that would be known as the Tayledras in the future years of Valdemar, the men (and women) with bond-birds that lived in the depths of the Pelagirs.
She is so shocked at his appearance that it takes a moment for his words to sink in. When they do, though, her posture relaxes and she looks .. well .. dejected. "Ow!" Lucas turns to Red. "What all's gotten into ya, Red? C'mon, now."
He chuckles a bit and looks back up at her, still smiling. "Sorry 'bout that. He's been actin' up since we got here. Normally real friendly. But hey, good t'hear 'm some kinda comfort, though. Probably don't feel too good gettin' hurt when you're away from home, yeah?"
He leans over and looks at the bandage a bit. "They do good patchin' ya up?"

"Yeah, I know how to heal a li'l bit with magic, lemme see..."
It became suddenly apparent that the thing everyone was panicking about was true. Lucas was without his magic. Granted, he could get by without it, he used it far less than others, but still, it was cause for concern. Lucas really couldn't fight as well as normal without it. He frowns.
"Well, looks like I ain't doin' that right now. Huh. Sorry, hun."
He laughs as she comments on his calm demeanor. "Yeah, well, ain't nothin' I can do 'bout it, right? They brought us here t'help, 'm guessin' they send us back when we do. Complainin' ain't gonna get me home."
He instinctively holds his hand out for a handshake before realizing that she doesn't exactly have a hand to return the gesture. He moves the hand back. "'m Lucas. Nice t'meet ya."

Her posture relaxes as he speaks and she nods her beak once. Her expression is wry, though this doesn't mean she's at all okay with how they were received upon arrival. "It would appear we have little option but to make the best of what we've been given," she agrees.
