[ THE CALL ]

The inhabitants of the Temple were all assembled in the Dining Hall. It was a large room with high ceilings, warmed by the fire in the fireplace opposite the main entrance and several smaller braziers scattered between the tables. The three large tables, normally set side by side, had been pushed against the walls to clear a space at the center of ( Read more... )

The Warrior has been watching Mezzaline for a while.

Despite its chaotic appearance, the whole situation is reminding him of when he and his comrades were initially called by Cosmos, and he is willing to work under the assumption that these new beings...strange as they may seem...are new allies.

It doesn't entirely erase his caution, which is why he didn't approach the spiderlady as soon as he noticed her. But after some observation, he has concluded that she has made no move to attack anyone else, and she does seem to be hurt. So, he walks slowly over, and will stop a good distance from her, in case she is hostile.

"Are you in need of assistance?"

Mezzaline looks up to the new voice. First her eyes are wide with surprise, but then they narrow with anger. This woman appears more like The Warrior than the one who attacked, but the subject she spoke of led Mezzaline to one conclusion.

"S-So it was one of yours who... wounded me so?" She pauses a moment to breathe, and then she keeps on: "I should-- like to know w-what we are doing here, a-and why I was attacked!"

The Warrior is conflicted. On the one hand, this woman is offering to show them the way to the healer that Mezzaline needs. On the other, she has just admitted that it was one of her own who attacked the spider-being in the first place - and furthermore, that these people were the ones who called them here. But on the third hand (figuratively speaking), she had also apologized for the attack.

He shifts a little closer to Mezzaline.

"It was, and again, you have our deepest apologies," Eir replied patiently, kindly. "I would be happy to answer all your questions, but please, while we take you to the healers?"

Eir glances to her companion briefly, and then back to Mezzaline.

"My name is Eir and it would please me to see you safely taken care of while I bring you both up to speed," she added, trying to drive her point home.

Eir's apologies and kind tone help soothe Mezzaline's irritation, but not earn her trust. Still, the promise of aid and answers are worth much to Mezzaline. Without either, she is left in a very poor place indeed.

So, though hesitantly, she agrees: "Thank you." Then, she looks to The Warrior. "You... will be coming too, y-yes?"

He nods, firmly. "Of course." You've been adopted as a new comrade, Mezzaline, and the Warrior doesn't abandon his comrades.

"Excellent. I cannot stay with you long so it's good that someone remain to keep you company," Eir replies, and slowly begins to lead them toward the main doors so she can take them door the corridors to the Healer's Hall.

"Your first question I believe was regarding why you have been brought here and why you were attacked," Eir continued, a bit of a lilt to the end of her sentence as if questioning that she had it correctly. Nonetheless, she continued.

"This is Vertiline. With Loe and Raina, we serve Our Lady and help protect the people of our country. What we protect them from are...best described as creatures. Monsters. Things that are not that unlike yourself in appearance. Up until now we've only summoned humans to our aid, so as such, Loe reacted on instinct when he saw you. You were viewed as a threat, and he sought to protect those who live in this temple."

Mezzaline takes the cloth from The Warrior and holds it to her side as they walk. As Eir speaks, Mezzaline grows more and more irritated. Not unlike herself in appearance, Eir says. Mezzaline understands, but she is by no means pleased.

Her tone ice cold, she replies, "I-- I see."

Mezzaline's most important question was answered, so she falls silent.
