There never was too much “basking in the afterglow”. They had sex, lots of sex, for a very long time, which generally resulted in broken furniture and cracked walls and plaster dust on the floor. But Buffy recovered quickly, and she always made her intentions clear. She wasn’t there to snuggle up with Spike and exchange sweet nothings, she was there to fuck, and then she was gone.
He watched her move away from the bed and toward the place where her clothes were strewn haphazardly across the floor and over an upended table. She fetched her bra from underneath a broken chair casually and began to dress.
She was limping a little. No surprise, since this time they’d been at it for more than three hours, seven orgasms (at Spike’s last count) between the two of them, and more than enough violence to leave them both bruised and aching.
“I’m heading home, Spike. And don’t start with the whole ‘I don’t like you walking alone at this hour’ speech-y thing. We’ve been over it, and I’m not going to change my mind.”
“Of course, pet. Wouldn’t want anyone to see us together now, would we?”, Spike replied bitterly. “The show must go on, right?”
If he didn’t know any better, he’d think her look was almost regretful, as she cast her eyes back toward him, at the same time taking in her surroundings, a crypt, one of the roomier mausoleums in the cemetery, and the bed she’d shared with him for sex, never for sleeping.
“Right. The show.”, she replied, her face scrunching up just the tiniest little bit and her breath hitching only enough that Spike would catch it. “Thanks, Spike. You know I’ll be back.”
“Sure, luv, you’ll be back. ‘Course you will”, he replied, casual as could be.
It’s not like he loved her or anything. It’s not like he could offer her anything more than this hole in a cemetery. Right?
