I don't remember how sick days were at my school, I rarely missed, but not being able to make something up that you're given a grade on if you're sick, that seems a little insane. Shouldn't the school just require parents' to write a note (and if the note seems unlikely, follow up with a phone call?). I know my one coworker got mono at the being of the year, and that can easily kill sick days (though obviously exceptions would be made for this type of event). Still, considering more and more work places are encouraging people NOT to go into work when sick, the work places often don't do much to encourage it (though my company isn't too bad, we use PTO instead of specific days

You would think. Apparently some parents are just too lazy, or the school was too lazy to go after the parents of the kids who weren't bringing in absense excuses.
It should be the teacher's choice, especially if it helps kids who need an extra boost to get from one grade to the next (like a D to a C).
Yeah, extra credit is a reward and should be used like the lifesaver it is. Especially if you do badly on something before you really understand it; it's like a second chance once you do.
I can kinda understand getting rid of homework, especially if alot of the kids have jobs after school, or something to that effect.
That was one of the points the article made, I believe. Children work, older children tend to have to take care of their younger siblings, etc.
Though, homework over the weekend would seem the only logical thing to keep, since it's use would be to keep the facts in the kids' head for the next

And oh, man, that's right. I remember all the crap you were going through. It's like I said, they only want the smart ones at that school, or the dumb ones they're allowed to shove into special aid classes.
Gotta keep their rating up! *drops a nuke on them*
