One of my best friends is from Arizona, so if you'd like I can ask him what it's like. He's got a good idea of the universities there and stuff, and I BELIEVE his sister went there. SO POINT IS. I'll bug him this weekend when I get married and ask him about it and get back to this post. Hpe this helps.

Thank you so much; this was very helpful. I must admit, I was already leaning towards UofA because they have a linguistics department, while ASU has a program in their English dept. IDK, it's hard to compare different schools because no one really has a program that combines both of my interests. So, in some cases, I'm comparing apples and oranges (programs with a strength in corpus linguistics vs. second language acquisition programs). And I feel like this has me looking at twice as many programs than I would be if I was only interested in one or the other.

It's overwhelming.

But I appreciate the advice! I have to admit, I've always liked Tucson, and I think I could be happy living there...although, of course, admissions is such a crap shoot, who the hell knows what will happen. But now I'm thinking I won't even apply to ASU.
